With technical assistance from Emater, settlers of Mãe-do-Rio will start planting malva
The initiative includes the São Paulo and Godêncio communities in the federal settlement Itabocal, with an estimated individual profit of R$ 10,000 from the harvest
With the encouragement of the local office of the Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Company of the State of Pará (Emater) in Mãe-do-Rio, on the Rio Capim, 15 families of agrarian reform settlers are expected to start the commercial planting of malva later this year, under supply contracts for inputs and purchase guarantees from the Companhia Têxtil de Castanhal (CTC).
A technical cooperation agreement between Emater and CTC supports that each of the interested farmers will work one hectare within the São Paulo and Godêncio communities in the federal settlement Itabocal, with an estimated individual profit of R$ 10,000 from the seed harvest.
Residents of the Santa Maria community, at km 22 of the BR-010 highway, are also being mobilized for the activity.
Next Friday (19), a delegation with four farmers from Mãe-do-Rio will participate in an exchange promoted by Emater to visit cultivation areas in neighboring Aurora do Pará.
Campaign
The institutional partnership between the public sector and private initiative to promote the productive chain of fiber is also an opportunity for new business for family farming. The terms were detailed in a lecture at the I Agricultural Fair of Mãe do Rio (Fenagro-MR) on September 12.
“Emater at Fenagro is a very symbolic moment because we highlight the issue of malva and serve as catalysts for family farmers' access to the public policies that are their right. It was a showcase and a kick-off for dissemination,” announced the head of the local Emater office in Mãe-do-Rio, Jorge Luiz Medeiros, an agricultural technician.
