The delegation from Pará is traveling to Brasília to participate in the 5th National Conference on Racial Equality Promotion (Conapir), which will be held from September 15 to 19 in the Federal District. The group, which departed on the morning of this Saturday (13), is composed of 63 representatives elected during the state stage of the event, promoted in Belém by the state government, through the Secretary of Racial Equality and Human Rights (Seirdh), in partnership with the State Council for Racial Equality Promotion Policy (Coneppir).

Among the delegates are 53 representatives from civil society and ten from the public sector chosen from the discussions held at the 5th State Conference on Racial Equality Promotion (Coepir), which brought together more than 300 people in August in the capital of Pará. At that time, 15 priority proposals were consolidated, which now gain space in the national discussion.

The Director of Racial Equality at Seirdh, João Corrêa, states that the State of Pará brings important agendas to Brasília

The Director of Racial Equality at Seirdh, João Corrêa, emphasizes the importance of the State of Pará raising agendas for the national conference. “We are bringing current and important agendas for the development of racial equality in Pará to the debate. In fact, we will implement the National System for Racial Equality Promotion (Sinapir) in all 144 municipalities of the State. Today, we have already initiated conversations with more than 50 municipalities for adherence, and the trend is to advance even further,” he reinforces.

With the theme “Equality and Democracy: Reparation and Racial Justice,” the national conference will bring together representatives from all over Brazil, social movements, and public managers to strengthen strategies to combat inequalities. The head of Seirdh, Edilza Fontes, highlights the relevance of Pará's participation. “We will have a very strong presence in Brasília. The commitment of the government of Pará is to ensure that the voices of our population are heard in the construction of public policies that confront racism and promote racial justice. We are prepared to contribute with concrete proposals and to show the strength of social participation from our State,” she emphasizes.

For Ariosnaldo Serra, from Coneppir, the expectation is for the consolidation of policies

For Ariosnaldo Serra, a member of the State Council for Racial Equality Promotion (Coneppir), the expectation is for the consolidation of the proposed public policies. “We want to consolidate at the national conference the premises of the state conference. The premises aimed at the black movement, the most vulnerable populations that are on the margins of intolerance, of racism, and that we can at least have respect for everything we desire,” he emphasized.

The national conference will be a unique moment in the lives of some delegates. This is the case of community leader Lauriene Cunha. “It will be a wonderful experience. It is an opportunity to be present with numerous leaders, with those who came before me. I will seek knowledge for my Axé people. We will fight against religious intolerance and religious racism,” she said.

Community leader Lauriene Cunha believes the moment will be historic

The meeting will be an opportunity for the State of Pará to reaffirm its protagonism in the agenda of racial equality and to defend initiatives that have already been built in dialogue with quilombola communities, indigenous peoples, African matrix peoples, black entrepreneurs, and various segments of civil society.
