Investments in the Una Sewage Treatment Plant in Belém are considered a historic milestone for the sanitation of the capital

The Una Sewage Treatment Plant (ETE) is considered the largest in Pará and is in the final construction phase. Located on the banks of the Una basin, the facility represents one of the most significant investments in basic sanitation in the State, with resources exceeding R$ 134 million. The project is a fundamental part of the Pará government's strategy to expand sewage coverage and ensure better health and quality of life for the population.

The president of the Pará Sanitation Company (Cosanpa), Colonel Dilson Júnior, conducted a technical visit to the construction site of the ETE Una. Accompanied by directors, engineers from the Company, and representatives of the responsible construction company, he closely monitored the progress of the work and emphasized the importance of overseeing the execution of a project with a significant positive impact on sanitation in Belém.

“We have committed, along with Governor Helder Barbalho, to monitor every detail of this strategic project. The ETE Una is a milestone in sanitation in Pará and demonstrates, in practice, the government's commitment to providing services that truly make a difference in the daily lives of the population. We are getting closer to delivering this historic project for the city,” reinforced the president of Cosanpa, Colonel Dilson Júnior.

Strategic Structures

Currently, the ETE Una has reached 91% completion, with the conclusion of strategic structures such as the UASB Unit, responsible for over 60% of the treatment process efficiency, and the completion of the electrical substation. According to Cosanpa engineer Susan Alves, this unit is essential for the operation of the ETE.

“The substation is already in the final stages of completion, and this unit will interconnect the entire electrical system of the ETE, such as the activation of pumps and other equipment of the project. We are also executing services on the drainage line, which will interconnect the systems, and is one of the main structures of the project,” highlighted the Cosanpa engineer.

The work also focuses on completing the civil structure, adjustments and connections of piping, electrical installations and equipment, as well as urbanization, drainage, and cleaning of the station's inlet channel. The expectation is that, in the coming weeks, the system will be ready to start operations.

ETE Una prevents the discharge of untreated sewage into the Guamá River

With a total area of 23,321.12 m² and the capacity to treat up to 475 liters of sewage per second, the ETE Una will directly benefit 90,000 residents from 10 neighborhoods in Belém. In addition to preventing the discharge of untreated sewage into the Guamá River, the station will contribute to the recovery of the hydrographic basin and will have a direct positive impact on public health and environmental preservation.

The delivery of the ETE Una is a fundamental step for Belém to advance in meeting the goals of universal sanitation. The project is part of a set of strategic investments by the Government of Pará that aim to prepare the capital for COP 30 in November this year, when the city will host the main environmental discussions on the planet.

The treatment plant received this name because it is located on the banks of the Una canal, one of the most important in Belém, which originates the hydrographic basin that cuts through several neighborhoods of the capital. The facility was designed to treat sanitary sewage, contributing to the decontamination of the basin, one of the most relevant water heritage sites in the city.
