The vice-governor Hana Ghassan announced this Friday (12) an average drop of 31% in the prices of daily rates for rooms and properties on vacation rental platforms during the United Nations Climate Conference (COP 30) period in Belém. "The actions of the DPE (Public Defender's Office), PGE (Attorney General's Office), Consumer Defense Center, and Procon, through a joint effort, managed to enable a reduction in accommodation prices, averaging 31%," said Hana Ghassan, with data presented by the Airbnb platform.

Regarding the accommodation offer for the delegates and participating leaders, a lodging plan has been made that prioritizes the negotiators of the Conference. There are 2,500 individual rooms, with rates set between 100 and 600 dollars. The accommodation policy was structured as follows: 15 individual rooms per delegation were reserved for countries classified by the United Nations as Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS), with rates between 100 and 200 dollars, and 10 individual rooms per delegation, with rates between 220 and 600 dollars, were made available for other countries.

Oversight - According to the public defender general of Pará, Mônica Belém, the DPE-PA has been closely monitoring the actions related to COP 30, aiming to ensure greater popular participation. "From the beginning, our focus has been to ensure a fair and transparent consumption environment in Belém during COP30, in order to ensure that all people, especially the most vulnerable groups, can fully participate in this global event, where we will discuss the climate emergency, which is already one of the main challenges of our time," said the public defender general.

According to Mônica Belém, the platform "Hoteis.com", linked to "Expedia", removed and blocked listings for accommodations with excessive prices for the COP30 period. "It is very important for our institution, at this moment, to achieve these results alongside the state government and other competent bodies, so that in the next steps we can continue the dialogue with the platforms, act in the oversight of abusive practices, and in rights education," she concluded.

Confirmed countries - During the visit to the COP30 accreditation area, Hana Ghassan highlighted the growth of confirmed countries for the event in Belém. "Today, we have 135 confirmed delegations, out of a total of 196 countries. This month, the number of confirmed delegations has doubled. We are working with a federal government task force alongside the state government, working personally with each delegation. Having 135 delegations two months before the event already shows that it will be a great COP, an inclusive and participatory COP," she assured.

The vice-governor inspected the assembly of the temporary modular structures of the Blue Zone, which is the responsibility of the UN (United Nations) and the federal government. Hana Ghassan monitored the works, saw the assembly of the accreditation area, the pavilions, and the plenaries where the negotiations of the leaders and delegates of the conference will take place.

The infrastructure of the Blue Zone was planned to offer a more sustainable, integrated, and inclusive environment. There will be 64 tents, occupying about 160,000 m² of functional area, within a security perimeter of 240,000 m², in the City Park, in Belém. More than 100 pavilions, plenaries, and offices for the delegations will be set up.
