As a reference in specialized care for burn victims, with support from the hyperbaric chamber and the Burn Treatment Center (CTQ), the management of the Metropolitan Hospital of Urgency and Emergency (HMUE), in Ananindeua, carried out a special action at the beginning of this week in honor of the month of the homeland. The initiative was dedicated to the children treated at the CTQ and aimed to provide moments of joy and relaxation, as well as to stimulate environmental education through playful activities.

The hospital's occupational therapist, Samanta Meirim, highlighted that the initiative aimed to celebrate the month of September in a playful way with the children while also introducing the theme of sustainability, addressing issues related to climate change and sustainable development in protection of the environment.

“The action also aimed to further humanize the hospitalization of these children and their companions. We were able to stimulate the children with leisure activities because they left the closed environment, had contact with nature, and had the opportunity to play and interact with other people. We also worked on the rehabilitation of these child users,” she pointed out.

Wilma Lopes, 32, is the mother of little Antony Lopes, 1 year and 5 months old, who has been hospitalized at HMUE for 10 days and participated in the program. “As a mother, I can only thank the Metropolitan Hospital for this action. It was good to see my son get out of bed a little, have contact with other people, feel the different environment, and release some of the energy that is kept inside here. This makes all the difference for him and also for us as a family.”

In addition to Wilma, the companion Wythyna Farias, 19, also enjoyed the moment with her son, Victor Farias, 1 year and two months old, who has been hospitalized for 12 days. “I thought it was wonderful, really good, my son was able to get out of bed, see people, and distract himself a little. It was special for him and for me as a mother,” said the resident of Nova Timboteua.

Data - The Occupational Therapy department of HMUE recorded 15,957 sessions between January and December 2024, aimed at hospitalized patients and outpatient users. From January to July 2025, 10,633 sessions were held.

Structure – Managed by the National Institute for Social and Human Development (INDSH), in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), HMUE has operational beds in the specialties of traumatology, general surgery, neurosurgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, plastic surgery (exclusive for burn victims), and ICU beds.

In 2024 alone, more than 600,000 services – including hospitalizations, surgeries, laboratory and imaging exams, multiprofessional care, and outpatient consultations – were offered to patients from the Metropolitan Region of Belém and other municipalities in Pará.
