Bragança took a decisive step towards strengthening its economy by hosting the Economic Development Seminar. Promoted by the Pará Economic Development Company (Codec), in partnership with the Municipal City Hall, on the night of this Tuesday (9). The meeting marked the beginning of actions of the Pará Productive Segment Strengthening Program, aimed at diversifying the economic matrix, strengthening productive chains, and creating conditions for attracting investments, generating jobs and income.

Bragança in numbers and opportunities

The technical presentation was conducted by Codec's Institutional Relations manager, Aline Tavares, and the Institutional Relations advisor, Evandro Diniz. They detailed the socioeconomic diagnosis of the municipality, prepared based on data from the Amazon Foundation for Support of Studies and Research of Pará (Fapespa) and the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

The seminar brought together representatives from the public power, organized civil society, and class entities

The survey shows that commerce accounts for 40% of formal jobs in Bragança, followed by services (34%) and the manufacturing industry (16%), with a focus on fish and agribusiness. In the last four years, the city exported approximately $49 million in fish and fish products, with 85% destined for the North American market. Agricultural production is also significant, with over 1.2 million birds, 43 thousand head of cattle, and substantial harvests of cassava and açaí.

For Aline Tavares, these elements reinforce the need to turn opportunities into concrete results. "Bragança has very strong economic and cultural characteristics. Our role is to structure these opportunities into strategic projects that attract investors and bring results to the population. The seminar is the beginning of a work that will strengthen the city as a development hub in Pará," she stated.

Evandro Diniz highlighted the strategic nature of the meeting: "From the seminar, Bragança now has a clear roadmap to structure its business environment, offer security to investors, and at the same time, ensure that the benefits return to the population in the form of jobs, income, and quality of life."

Municipality's commitment

Mayor Mário Ribeiro da Silva emphasized that the seminar marks a new moment for the municipality. For him, development requires courage and the union between public power and civil society. "This seminar is a decisive moment for Bragança. It helps us reflect on where we are and where we want to go, calling on society and public power to work together to overcome challenges and ensure progress. I want to thank everyone who is committed to the development of our city, Codec, and every segment of our economy that is present today. With partnerships and planning, Bragança is moving towards becoming an entrepreneurial city in all areas," he stated.

Signing of the protocol

One of the highlights of the program was the signing of a letter of intent, formalizing the partnership between the City Hall of Bragança, Codec, and other state and municipal authorities. The document reaffirms the joint commitment to execute the next stages of the city's economic development.

Opening table

The opening table brought together political, business, and academic leaders. Present were the mayor of Bragança, Mário Ribeiro da Silva Júnior; the Institutional Relations advisor of Codec, Evandro Diniz; the president of the Municipal Chamber, Juarez Júnior (Júnior do Pneu); the vice-mayor and municipal secretary of Planning and Works, Marcele Castanho; the Special Secretary of Management and Governance, Danilo Cordeiro; the municipal secretary of Finance, Rodrigo Cunha; the director of IECOS at the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), Mônica Menezes; the director of the Federal Institute of Pará (IFPA), Abel Pojo; the president of the Retail Directors Club (CDL), Luciane Abdon; and councilor Francisco Mendes, Chiquinho da Pesca, representing the fishing and industrial sector.

Productive sector

The innovation agent from Sebrae, Antônio Ferreira Silva, highlighted that the seminar opens pathways to transform potential into reality. For him, it is a collective and intersectoral movement that strengthens the city on various fronts. "We always hear about Bragança as the land of flour and tourism, but Bragança is much more than that and will always be more," he stated.

The director of IFPA, Abel Pojo, emphasized that the event demonstrated the integration of different segments around a common project. He noted that each action from commerce, industry, and services connects to a larger development strategy. "It is gratifying to see how this dialogue strengthens the productive chain and opens pathways for new opportunities," he said.

Councilor Francisco Mendes, Chiquinho da Pesca, advocated for the appreciation of fishing activity as a strategic axis of the local economy. According to him, about 35% of everything produced in fish remains in the hands of fishermen, driving the city's economy. "This is a sector that generates jobs, income, and development and needs to be valued as a fundamental part of Bragança's future," he emphasized.

At the entrepreneurs' fair, artisan and businesswoman Suzane Costa highlighted the relevance of the initiative for those living off small businesses. For her, the seminar "opens doors and creates opportunities for entrepreneurs," valuing the creative economy and giving visibility to local products.

The entrepreneurial couple Paulo César Vieira Rosterni and Roseane Mabilias Costa Messias, from the food and tourism sector, evaluated that the seminar brought a new perspective for the city's future. "The importance of this event lies in the fact that it brings all actors together around the planning and development that Bragança will have in the coming years. It is always said that Bragança is a potentially great city, but this potential needs to become a reality. It is time to accelerate and transform this potential into concrete development, strengthening commerce and generating opportunities for the population," they highlighted.

Importance of the event

Held at the Teatro Museu da Marujada, the seminar brought together more than 200 people, including authorities, entrepreneurs, representatives from educational institutions, farmers, local producers, and the general population. The meeting was marked by inter-institutional dialogue, deemed essential to align public policies and build joint strategies for Bragança's economic future.

More than reaffirming its tradition in fishing, agriculture, and culture, the city showed it is ready to diversify its economy, consolidate itself as a regional hub, and strengthen its role in the sustainable and inclusive development of Pará.
