The Cultural Foundation of Pará (FCP) will inaugurate on Wednesday, September 10th, at 7 PM, the exhibition "Archaeology of Affections" by visual artist Karina Martins, winner of the Branco de Melo Award 2025. The exhibition will take place at the Ruy Meira Gallery, located in the Casa das Artes in Belém. Admission is free and will be open to the public until October 31st.
"Archaeology of Affections" is a solo exhibition that proposes a sensitive reflection on the role of family archives in the construction of identity and memory. Using personal materials and memories — such as photographs, religious objects, childhood items, and everyday records — Karina Martins transforms the intimate into artwork, revealing affective memories that span generations.

Inspired by the thoughts of philosopher Walter Benjamin, the artist uses the metaphor of excavation to treat the past as something to be carefully unearthed. She states: "Those who intend to approach their buried past must act like a man who digs."
The exhibition emerged during the period of social isolation imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Facing the anguish and uncertainty of the moment, Karina turned to her personal archives as a form of rescue and emotional healing. The search for memories — both her own and those of her ancestors — transformed into a powerful creative process, which is now shared with the public through art.
"The exhibition consists of two videos, two installations, three objects, and a selection of authorial photographs and family archives. All the works share the construction of an affective and symbolic inventory that transcends time and individual experience," informs Karina.

Considering accessibility, the exhibition includes resources aimed at people with low vision, such as texts in braille and descriptions of the works.
