Illicit cargo was flagged on a vessel navigating the Amazon River, in front of Óbidos, in western Pará, making the route from Manaus to Belém

The integrated inspection action by agents operating at the Candiru River Base, linked to the Secretary of Public Safety and Social Defense (Segup), seized 16.415 kg of skank-type drugs on Sunday (7). The narcotic was being transported on a vessel navigating the Amazon River, in front of Óbidos, in western Pará, making the route from Manaus to Belém.
“The continuous seizures made during inspections from the River Bases reinforce daily that the river security strategy, the positioning of our Bases at strategic points has been fundamental in assisting in the fight against crime, especially drug trafficking and the dismantling of criminal organizations. This time, there were 15 blocks of skank totaling 16.415 kg of illicit substances that would fuel the illegal market. We will continue to work very strongly to keep seizing the illicit goods that cross the routes of our state, whether they are river or land routes, and continue to ensure the fight against crime and the safety of our Pará population,” stated the head of Segup, Ualame Machado.

The seizure occurred around 4:30 PM on Sunday (7), during the approach by police from the Public Safety River Group and Military Police to the vessel N/M Ana Karoline VII, originating from Manaus and heading to Belém.
During the search of the cargo and passengers' luggage, the sniffer dog Isis identified and signaled positively for the presence of narcotics in the bow buoy of the vessel, where 15 blocks were found, totaling 16.415 kg of skank substances. The material was hidden in boxes and bags.
After the flagrant, all the material was removed, seized, and forwarded to the Civil Police team of Óbidos for legal procedures. Investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for sending the material.
