The Public Regional Hospital of the East (HRPL), in Paragominas, in southeastern Pará, has strengthened its performance in the national project "Health in Our Hands", an initiative of the Ministry of Health, through Proadi-SUS (Support Program for the Institutional Development of the Unified Health System), in partnership with six reference hospitals in the country. With the support of the Beneficente Portuguesa Hub of São Paulo, HRPL has already recorded significant results: a 78% reduction in bloodstream infections (BSIs) and total elimination of urinary tract infections (UTIs).

On Wednesday (3), the Regional Hospital received a technical visit from project partners, during which the actions implemented by the Hospital Infection Control Service (HICS) were presented, inspections were conducted in strategic sectors, dynamics with the care team were held, and practical training on ultrasound-guided procedures for doctors and nurses was provided. The initiative reinforces HRPL's commitment to patient safety and quality of care.

Training - The consultants also inspected the Emergency Room and conducted practical dynamics in the ICU, allowing the team to interact and reinforce good infection prevention practices. The day ended with practical training, including medical training in central catheter insertion and nursing training in bladder residual assessment, both ultrasound-guided, to reduce infection risks.

For nurse Wenison Costa from HICS, "the Hospital, by committing to the project, reinforces patient safety and the continuous improvement of care quality, aligning with the goals of 'Health in Our Hands' and the best practices for preventing Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs)."

Expansion - Thanks to the significant results achieved, HRPL was one of 34 hospitals selected, out of more than 300 participating units across Brazil, to expand the project's actions to the Emergency Room as well. The initiative reinforces the unit's commitment to patient safety and the quality of care provided.

Painter Renan Gomes da Silva, 32, who was accompanying his father hospitalized for surgery, emphasized his satisfaction with the quality of care. "This is my first time here, and I am really enjoying it. I was anxious when I admitted my father, but seeing the team's dedication to caring for him was very good! I thank God and you for treating us well," said Renan.

HRPL has 70 beds, distributed among surgical clinic, medical clinic, and adult ICU. It offers services in medical and surgical clinics, with various specialties such as neurology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, oncology, general surgery, and maxillofacial surgery, in addition to anesthetic support. It also provides outpatient consultations in various areas, including cardiology, urology, endocrinology, mastology, and gynecology.

Service: The Public Regional Hospital of the East is an agency of the health network of the Government of Pará, managed by the Instituto Diretrizes, in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa). HRPL is located at Rua Adelaide Bernardes, s/n, in the Nova Conquista neighborhood, in Paragominas. For more information, call: 0800 5803291.
