The governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, was at Km 1 of BR-316 on Wednesday night (3) to monitor the final stretch of the Metropolitan BRT works, which are already 90% complete. The system, which will begin operating in an assisted phase later this month, represents a milestone for urban mobility and will directly benefit the residents of the Metropolitan Region of Belém.

The Metropolitan BRT project includes the construction of 13 pedestrian bridges along BR-316, 13 boarding and alighting stations, and two integration terminals – in Ananindeua and Marituba. The entire operation will be coordinated by the Operational Control Center (CCO), ensuring more safety and efficiency in public transport.

The fleet will consist of 265 buses equipped with air conditioning and wi-fi, ensuring more comfort for users. The system will integrate various neighborhoods of the municipalities in the Metropolitan Region, allowing access via exclusive corridors on BR-316 to the connection terminals and other destinations.

New standard for public transport

During the visit, Governor Helder Barbalho emphasized that the project will transform the quality of life for those who rely on buses daily.

“We are in the final phase of the BRT works, works that have caused inconveniences for the population of the Metropolitan Region, but are necessary so that, by the end of this month, we can start the assisted operation of the buses. There are more than 260 vehicles with wi-fi and air conditioning, ensuring that neighborhoods in Belém, Ananindeua, Marituba, Santa Bárbara, Benevides, and Santa Izabel can connect to the integration terminals and access their destinations via express routes. We are finalizing bike lanes, pedestrian bridges, and terminals, and we will certainly deliver a new quality in public transport for the entire region,” said the governor.
