The Government of Pará participated this week in the first meeting of the Interfederative Working Group (GT) for Environmental Regularization, held in Brasília (DF). The meeting marks the beginning of a coordination between states of the Legal Amazon and the federal government to accelerate the implementation of the Forest Code and expand environmental regularization actions in the region.

The GT was established within the framework of the Interstate Consortium for Sustainable Development of the Legal Amazon and brings together representatives from the National Institute of Colonization and Agrarian Reform (Incra), the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MMA), the Civil House of the Presidency of the Republic, the Brazilian Forest Service, and the Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services (MGI).

Representing the State of Pará, the Secretary of Environment, Climate and Sustainability, Raul Protazio Romão, highlighted the potential of the initiative to generate concrete results. “This is our first meeting, marking the reinforcement of this concrete action aimed at quick deliveries and results in the agenda of environmental regularization and the application of the Forest Code,” said Romão, who is also the Director for Rural Environmental Registration (CAR) issues at the Forum of Environment Secretaries of the Amazon.

With shared coordination and definition of technical responsibilities, the group seeks to align guidelines and accelerate joint solutions that contribute to the reduction of environmental liabilities and the consolidation of territorial management instruments in the Legal Amazon.

Pará leads advances in environmental regularization

During the meeting, the joint action of Pará and other Amazonian states in the Arguição de Descumprimento de Preceito Fundamental (ADPF) 473, before the Supreme Federal Court (STF), was cited as a positive example in defending measures aimed at combating deforestation, wildfires, and expanding the Rural Environmental Registration (CAR).

Home to the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 30), which will be held in Belém in November 2025, Pará has already recorded significant results on the subject. So far, the State has completed the analysis of 9.5 million hectares of CAR — an area larger than the territory of countries such as Portugal, Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic, Ireland, and Slovakia.

Through the Regulariza Pará program, more than 50,500 owners or possessors of rural properties are already in the process of environmental regularization. The initiative strengthens environmental preservation while ensuring legal security and sustainability for rural production in the state.
