The Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup) of the State of Pará began, on Monday (1st), the "Operation Curupira Mirim," coordinated by the Directorate of Public Security Policies and Social Prevention (DPS). The initiative focuses on raising awareness and combating the sexual exploitation and trafficking of children and adolescents, with awareness and inspection actions alongside the hotel sector. This measure is part of the preparatory actions for the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30) in November.

Nationally articulated by the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP), the operation prioritizes regions of greater social vulnerability and riverside communities. According to the director of DPS/Segup, delegate Ariane Santos, the goal is to ensure the full defense of the rights of children and adolescents.

"It is in this context that we will be acting preventively in bars, lodging houses, hotels, ports, and airports, to provide information and reinforce the responsibility of the owners of these establishments not to allow the presence of children and adolescents unaccompanied by their legal guardians and, mainly, to encourage the use of reporting channels in cases of suspected violations. It is essential that they use the support network for the necessary referrals," she emphasized.

Action in the territory - The operation is scheduled to take place in Belém, in the Metropolitan Region and in tourist municipalities of Eastern Marajó, such as Soure, Salvaterra, Muaná, Ponta de Pedras, Cachoeira do Arari, and Santa Cruz do Arari, until September 30.

The initiative involves the Military Police, with ostensive actions; the Civil Police, with judicial police activities; as well as the Military Fire Brigade, Scientific Police, State Committee for Combating Violence against Children and Adolescents in Pará, and the State Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents (CEDCA/PA).

Mobilization in the hotel sector - During the opening of the "Operation Curupira Mirim," a sensitization action was carried out in hotels in Ananindeua and Castanhal, with guidance and distribution of posters with useful information on combating sexual exploitation and trafficking of children and adolescents. This measure will be replicated in the hotel network of municipalities in the Metropolitan Region of Belém throughout this week.
