Southeast Pará Regional Hospital reaches 4,500 hemodynamic procedures and transforms lives
In Marabá, the unit ensures high-complexity surgeries that save patients and establishes itself as a reference in the interior of the State
The Southeast Pará Regional Hospital – Dr. Geraldo Veloso (HRSP), in Marabá, has reached the mark of 4,500 procedures performed in Hemodynamics since the inauguration of the sector in June 2022. More than just numbers, this achievement translates into preserved lives and patients who have regained safety and quality of life thanks to the essential service provided by the Government of Pará.
Among these stories is that of retiree Antônia Alves, 58 years old, a resident of the Carajás region. She was the first patient treated in the sector in 2022 when she received the diagnosis of a cerebral aneurysm and underwent an emergency embolization. The procedure was successful, and three years later, Antônia continues to be regularly monitored at the hospital, where she has just undergone a control cerebral arteriography.
“I am happy because the procedure I had three years ago was a success; I lead a normal life. Every year I return to have this control exam, and I feel safe knowing that I am being monitored by such a prepared team,” Antônia said, emotionally.
She emphasizes the importance of the service in Marabá. “If it weren't for this care, I wouldn't be here today because when it happened, it was very serious. I was treated quickly, and I can only thank everyone who is part of this work,” Antônia reported.
Interventional neuroradiologist Dr. Márcio Costa, responsible for Antônia's first embolization and also for the routine examination, highlighted the importance of the procedure and the follow-up offered by the hospital to the patients of the service.
“From the beginning, we were convinced that the treatment would be effective, which is confirmed every year by the control exams that show the patient in full recovery. In addition to the surgery, the Regional guarantees this annual follow-up, which is essential for the safety and quality of life of the patients,” explained Márcio.
For the specialist, Antônia's journey is a portrait of the relevance of the Hemodynamics service. “It is very gratifying to see that, three years later, she is doing well and has a good quality of life. Stories like hers show how much this sector makes a difference in the treatment of the population. The mark of 4,500 procedures is proof of a work that saves lives every day and deserves to be celebrated by society,” the doctor emphasized.
Reference - Nurse Crisila Reis, responsible for the sector, emphasizes that each procedure symbolizes care and responsibility. “Our sector is well evaluated by patients because we follow all safety protocols and have humanized care and a qualified multidisciplinary team. This result makes us happy and motivated, as each procedure represents a life cared for with responsibility and dedication,” she highlighted.
At the Regional Hospital of Marabá, the service performs high-complexity minimally invasive surgeries, such as catheterization, angioplasty, arteriography, and cerebral embolization, in addition to angioplasty and arteriography procedures for limbs. These techniques allow for precise diagnoses and effective treatments, with shorter recovery times and safety for patients.
Inaugurated in 2022 by Governor Helder Barbalho, the sector has established itself as a reference in the interior of the State. The unit, managed by the Institute of Social and Environmental Health of the Amazon (ISSAA) in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), offers 100% free care through the Unified Health System (SUS). The unit has 135 beds, including 97 for clinical hospitalization and 38 for Intensive Care Units (ICUs).
