The Integrated Inclusion and Rehabilitation Center (CIIR), in Belém, through the Sustainability Commission, promoted Sustainable Week, an initiative aimed at raising socio-environmental awareness among the internal and external audiences of the institution. The program took place within the Center and in the Barreiro neighborhood, around the health unit of the Government of Pará.

Residents of Barreiro learned to turn used cooking oil into soap

During the week, the Sustainability Commission held a workshop on ecological soap production, a workshop on handmade soaps, and distributed vegetables.

The ecological soap workshop, held in the community, encouraged the reuse of used cooking oil, promoting awareness about the correct disposal of waste and stimulating sustainable practices in daily life. The soap workshop reinforced the use of natural ingredients.

Users and companions received vegetables produced at CIIR

The distribution of fresh vegetables, within the CIIR premises, highlighted the importance of healthy eating and the encouragement of local and urban agriculture to users and their families. “The actions contribute to environmental education, waste reduction, and the appreciation of sustainable practices, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and strengthening the culture of socio-environmental responsibility among participants,” emphasized Denise Morais, president of the Sustainability Commission.

Actions in the community - On Thursday (28), the Commission held workshops on Ecological Soap and Soap for residents of Barreiro, involving people interested in learning ways to reuse materials and reduce environmental impacts.

“I thought it was great because it is a benefit for the community to learn to reuse things that we end up throwing away and harming the environment. It was a wonderful afternoon. We left here with soap and liquid soap that we will use a lot,” said resident Francineide Lopes.

“CIIR has already helped the community with a garden, a yard, and now with this workshop. This brings us closer and provides activities that benefit us. The institution deserves congratulations,” added the participant.

Experience - This Friday (29), at CIIR, the action was directed at CIIR professionals with the Ecological Soap Workshop, a product made from natural extracts. Workshop participant, health caregiver Thiffany Pinheiro, 24, who works in the Autism Spectrum Disorder Care Center (Natea), approved of the experience.

“It was a great workshop. The soaps are very fragrant, sustainable, with products that we can easily find and make at home. Moreover, it is a great break from work, which is so hectic, to do something manual, artisanal, and that also contributes to our mental health,” she emphasized.

Healthy eating - Still within the program, last Tuesday (26), the Commission distributed vegetables produced at CIIR to 13 users and companions. The action, held in the Sensory Garden, counted on the collaboration of the gardening team and Denise Morais.

Collard greens, cariru, green onions, chicory, and chives were distributed, without pesticides. In addition to stimulating healthy consumption, the initiative aimed to diversify the menu of the families served.

To encourage continuous participation, informative materials and posters about sustainable practices are available on the institution's bulletin boards. For the Sustainability Commission, the environmental education actions reinforce CIIR's commitment to the environment, health, and the quality of life of users, employees, and the surrounding community.
