The Government of Pará, through the Integrated Center for Inclusion and Rehabilitation (CIIR), a unit linked to the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), promoted a special program in honor of the National Week of People with Intellectual and Multiple Disabilities, celebrated from August 21 to 28, according to Law No. 13.585/2017.

To mark the date, CIIR held a lecture on Wednesday (27) titled "Accessibility and Inclusion: Paths to a Fairer Society," conducted by psychologist Cledson Quadros. The meeting, held in the institution's auditorium, brought together users, companions, and collaborators, focusing on dialogue about accessibility, respect for differences, and inclusive practices in everyday life.

According to the speaker, bringing the topic into CIIR is essential, as it directly relates to the reality of the audience served. "Discussing accessibility and inclusion here means giving prominence to people with disabilities, valuing their experiences and showing the challenges of everyday life. We still need to advance in various dimensions to have a truly inclusive society," emphasized Cledson.

He also added that weeks like the Week of People with Disabilities play an essential role in this process. "The goal is to stimulate autonomy and protagonism, so that each person sees themselves as an active agent of their own life," highlighted the psychologist.

Support and welcome

Among the participants was Jaqueline Silva da Costa, mother of Wallace Micael Tavares, 6 years old, a CIIR user. Jaqueline highlighted the relevance of the event beyond the institutional space.

"It is a learning experience, both for those who teach and for those who listen. I will take things to put into practice in my daily life. As the mother of a child with autism, I face many difficulties. Society still needs to learn a lot, but what I desire most for my son's future is that he can learn and be accepted, with support and welcome," she stated.

For the president of the Humanization Working Group (GTH) of CIIR, Ivana Pimentel, the lecture reinforced the institution's mission and the commitment of professionals to promote reflections that go beyond the walls of the Center.

"It is important because we are a space that breathes inclusion and accessibility every day. But moments like this lead us to reflect on our role outside: what are we doing to also build a more inclusive, accessible, and diverse environment in society?" she emphasized.

The initiative reinforces the importance of awareness, social inclusion, and combating prejudice, as well as encouraging the construction of public policies and the recognition of the autonomy and voice of people with disabilities in society.

In addition to the lecture, CIIR continuously maintains educational and preventive health activities that contribute to promoting quality of life, exercising citizenship, and valuing inclusion in all spaces.
