Focusing on promoting dialogue and strengthening public policies, the Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat of Justice (Seju) and the State Council on Drugs (Coned), began, this Wednesday (27), the Paraense Week for Prevention and Combat Against Drug Use. The official opening took place during a special session at the Legislative Assembly of the State of Pará (Alepa), with the participation of public school students and partner institutions in the fight against chemical dependency.

Created by State Law No. 5,992/1996, this edition of the Week has the theme "Drugs, human rights, and new perspectives," and aims to broaden the debate on the impacts of psychoactive substance use and the importance of prevention, especially among children and youth.

Education, culture, and prevention

The ceremony featured a musical performance by the Fasepart group from the Pará Socio-Educational Assistance Foundation (Fasepa), as well as speeches from representatives of civil society and the state government.

The opening included students and representatives from institutions working in drug prevention

According to Seju's Deputy Secretary, Raimundo Feliz, prevention work must be continuous and intersectoral. "When we talk about drugs, we refer to any substance that can be addictive, whether legal or illegal. It is a continuous work of alert and dialogue, especially with children and youth, in all regions," he emphasized.

Representing the State Council of Education, Professor Vânia Carneiro reinforced the importance of active student participation in the Week's activities.
"The Week has activities not only aimed at students but also planned by them. This union of efforts between students and managers is essential to avoid the risks of drugs," she stated.

State Plan under construction

During the session, Seju's Director of Justice, Renata Hage, presented the developments of the regional public consultation on the National Drug Policy Plan and highlighted Pará's commitment to building an articulated state plan.

The opening took place in a solemn session at the Legislative Assembly

"In fact, we are working during the Week on the integration of this network and a priority agenda for next year, which will be a state drug policy plan, already conceived due to the consultation conducted," she explained.

Program continues until September 2

The program of the Paraense Week for Prevention and Combat Against Drug Use extends until September 2, with educational, cultural, and regulatory activities in the municipalities of Afuá, Ananindeua, Belém, Óbidos, and Santarém.
