The training was aimed at 57 professionals from the municipality of Castanhal, in the Metropolitan Region of Belém

During the days of August 25 and 26, the Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup), through the Directorate of Public Policies and Social Prevention (DPS) and the Institute of Security Education of Pará (Iesp), promoted training in humanized care directed at homeless people for 57 professionals from the municipality of Castanhal, in the Metropolitan Region of Belém (RMB). The action is aimed at improving a humanized and efficient approach for the population that is in social vulnerability.

The qualification is in its fifth class and took place at the Municipal Social Assistance Secretariat, including servers and professionals who work in the protection and assistance network of Castanhal, as well as agents from the Military Fire Brigade, Civil Police, and Military Police.

For Ualame Machado, head of Segup, ensuring the improvement of care is an essential factor to enhance the efficiency of the service. “The goal of the training is to ensure a broad humanized approach on various fronts, and that is why we integrate, in addition to public security agents, social assistance and health servers. Besides aligning care with humanized practices, the qualification is an effective way to promote citizenship and reduce risks,” pointed out the manager.

For Ediane Jorge, social worker and reference technician at the Municipal Social Assistance Secretariat of Castanhal, who participated in the training, the course is an opportunity to learn new concepts and practices in the care provided in the city and to enhance the services provided at the Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS) and the Specialized Social Assistance Reference Center (CREAS). “We are learning a lot from the training, in terms of improving our practice and understanding the reasons that lead a person to be on the street and, in addition, to also review some concepts we have to avoid discrimination or prejudiced care,” she explained.

This year, more than 200 security and assistance network professionals have already been trained in various municipalities of the State

Soldier Bentes, who is part of the Second Military Fire Brigade of Castanhal, evaluates that the course increases the perspective on the humanitarian aspect of public service, in addition to presenting the complexity involved in caring for someone who is homeless. “This complexity can be due to mental health issues, family problems, emotional issues, and various other things. It is important that our care is free of prejudices, free of anything that affects the dignity of this person in responding to the occurrence,” concluded the firefighter.

In 2025, more than 200 security and assistance network professionals were trained in the municipalities of Belém, Ananindeua, Marituba, Tailândia, and Castanhal.
