Firefighters in Pará Enhance Training for Rescues in Typical Amazon Scenarios
Between January and July 2025, the corporation recorded about 15,000 responses in different regions of the State

The government of Pará, through the Military Fire Brigade (CBMPA), intensifies the preparation of teams for rescues that require techniques adapted to the geographical and climatic particularities of the Amazon. Between January and July 2025, the corporation carried out about 15,000 responses throughout the State, with a focus on pre-hospital occurrences and rescues in traffic accidents.
Operations on land, air, and water
The diversity of scenarios in the Amazon requires firefighters to be capable of operating on land, in the air, and in the water. Among the biggest challenges are water rescues, conducted by the Maritime and River Group (GMAF), responsible for occurrences of drownings and disappearances in rivers and streams.

“For operations, we use autonomous diving equipment, such as cylinders, valves, regulators, buoyancy vests, masks, and fins, in addition to specific materials for underwater rescue. The vessels employed include support boats, steering type, and flex boats, which are essential when there is no exact location point for victims. After 24 hours, we begin surface searches, where these vessels expand the sweep area and optimize the rescue,” explained CBMPA Lieutenant Colonel Aluiz Palheta Rodrigues.
Most recorded occurrences
Of the approximately 15,000 occurrences recorded during the period, most correspond to pre-hospital responses, with rescues in traffic accidents being among the most frequent. The municipalities that concentrated the highest number of calls were Belém, Ananindeua, and Santarém.

How to call the firefighters
In the Metropolitan Region of Belém (RMB), calls to the Fire Brigade can be made by the numbers 190 or 193, answered by the Integrated Operations Center of Pará (CIOP). In the interior of the State, calls are made through the Integrated Operations Nuclei (NIOP) or directly at the corporation's fire stations.
