Justice Department promotes Prevention and Combat Week against Drug Use
Event will take place from August 27 to September 2 in different municipalities of Pará

The State Department of Justice (Seju) and the State Council on Drugs (Coned) will hold the Pará Prevention and Combat Week against Drug Use from August 27 to September 2. The event, promoted in partnership with various institutions, takes place in different municipalities of Pará, aiming to promote dialogue and collaboration between the public authorities and civil society in addressing chemical dependency.
The program traditionally takes place in the week of June 20 to 26, but this year, due to the adapted school calendar for the COP 30 event in Belém, it has been rescheduled to a period that ensures the effective participation of the school community in the cultural and social activities of the event, whose theme is 'Drugs, Human Rights, and the Challenge of New Perspectives'.

“This year's theme reflects our commitment to expanding understanding of the issue. We count on the participation of social assistance, education, health, and public safety professionals, athletes, community leaders, and students to work together on the multiple dimensions involving drug use, human rights, and current challenges in prevention,” says the State Secretary of Justice and President of Coned, Evandro Garla.
The program includes educational and oversight actions in the municipalities of Afuá, Ananindeua, Belém, Óbidos, and Santarém. The goal is to inform and reinforce to society the damages caused by drug use. The initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal No. 3, promoted by the United Nations to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all people, at all ages.

The Week also promotes the collection of personal hygiene materials that will be donated to therapeutic communities for chemical dependents. “Many of the individuals received were homeless, without access to hygiene. So they need to go through the detoxification stage and also through resocialization, which includes developing their own physical and mental well-being,” explains Cimara Vidal, Vice President of Coned.
