The Companhia de Saneamento do Pará (Cosanpa) received the adhesion of different institutions from society to participate in the "Prodesan Cidadania", an initiative developed with the aim of promoting actions of environmental education, social inclusion, and empowerment of women and children living in the areas that will be served by the Pará Sanitation Development Project (Prodesan Pará).

The ceremony to present Prodesan Cidadania to partner institutions was held this week at Cosanpa's headquarters in Belém. During the meeting, the results of the field research were detailed and how they supported the construction of the project's action axes, which will have 76 schools as reference points and is expected to benefit around 30,000 people, with activities focused on citizenship education, environmental preservation, female empowerment, and racial literacy.

Camila Martins, from the Mandí Organization, spoke about the project's potential for transformation through community leadership. "Without community engagement, there are multiple public policies with little effectiveness. This project aims to offer not only sanitation for people but also access to networks that promote gender equality, environmental protection, and climate resilience, through direct dialogue with the community," said Camila.

In addition to the Mandí Organization and the City Hall of Belém, other institutions that joined the project include the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), Federal Rural University of the Amazon (UFRA), Gender Violence Prevention and Combat Center of the Public Defender's Office of the State (NUGEM - DPE), United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Regional Council of Engineering and Agronomy (CREA-PA), Council of Architecture and Urbanism of Pará (CAU-PA), State Coordination of Women in Situations of Domestic and Family Violence, within the scope of the Court of Justice of the State of Pará (CEVID - TJPA), and the City Hall of Belém, through the Executive Secretariat of Productive Inclusion.

"Our word is one of gratitude to all who joined at this moment and to those who are still in talks to be with Cosanpa in this project that brings citizenship in its name. Citizenship refers to dignity, and sanitation, beyond the works, provides the population with quality water and sewage collection and treatment. But this legacy will be expanded with the participation of each partner through actions of education, environmental care, and community involvement," emphasized Vitor Borges, financial director of Cosanpa.

With the partnerships established, the next actions of Prodesan Cidadania will be carried out based on the definition of the schedule for the planned activities in conjunction with the visited communities.

Among the actions are: guided visits to the Bolonha Water Treatment Station, Environmental Cinema; School garden management workshop, rainwater harvesting, recycling of materials; Participatory planting of shade and fruit tree seedlings to reduce heat waves; Lectures on menstrual dignity, prevention of gender violence, and racial literacy, as part of the Racial Equity Pact of the State Court of Accounts (TCE), of which Cosanpa has been a signatory since November 2024.
