Iesp debates the protection of traditional populations and natural resources of the Amazon
The seminar held at Unifamaz brings together public security professionals and representatives of civil society to discuss climate change and strategies for protecting the communities living in the forest
The State Secretariat for Public Security and Social Defense (Segup), through the Institute of Teaching of Public Security of Pará (Iesp), in partnership with the Metropolitan University Center of the Amazon (Unifamaz), opened on the morning of this Thursday (21) the seminar "Public Security, Climate Justice, and Human Rights at COP30: Our Voices Our Actions." The goal is to promote the debate among public security professionals and civil society on climate change and strategies for promoting environmental justice and protecting the communities living in the forest.
The head of Segup, Ualame Machado, participated in the opening of the event with a lecture on "Public Security and the Amazon: Challenges in Proposals for Sustainability, Development, and Respect for the Rights of Local Populations," in which he highlighted the actions developed by the state's public security in defense of the environment, the population that lives off the forest, and in combating environmental crimes.

Scenario of COP - "We are here to discuss issues that are so pertinent to our Amazonian reality, and the importance of preserving our natural riches and raising awareness among the population about the responsibility we all have to take care of our forest, and not allow it to be devastated. We have the role of ensuring the safety of this population that lives in the forest and needs it for their livelihood, and thus not confuse them with those who exploit our natural riches with a criminal bias. It is important to talk about this subject, in this year when our city will host COP, and we need to be aware of our actions, as we are all impacted by the harmful effects of the misuse and undue exploitation of natural resources, which can impact climate change and, especially, the dynamics of those who live under the forest," emphasized Ualame Machado.
The acting director of Iesp, delegate Telma Avelar, emphasized the importance of the theme proposed by the seminar, aimed at the debate between public security professionals and society in search of solutions aimed at preserving the forest and maintaining the rights and justice of its inhabitants. "Our proposal is to expand this field of discussion, so that we can all act in favor of the environment and those who live in the forest and need protection. We need to have knowledge to be part of this process and integrate security with civil society, for the debate on this very pertinent theme that allows us to broaden awareness of these issues, aiming for the good of all," said the director.

Commitment - For the rector of Unifamaz, Adriana Gorayeb, this is a decisive moment for reflections on such relevant and urgent themes for today's society, connecting public security with climate justice and human rights, and reinforcing the commitment to the production of knowledge for future generations.
"It is with great satisfaction that Unifamaz hosts this event today, a crucial moment for debate and reflections on such urgent themes for our society. It is on the stage of COP30 with discussions that connect public security, climate justice, and human rights. It is an honor and a privilege. This event reaffirms our commitment to the production of relevant knowledge and to promoting a fairer and safer future for all. Secretary Ualame Machado's lecture was of great relevance, addressing the public security actions that have been implemented in the state," emphasized the rector.

During the program, panels will be presented on themes related to Climate Security, human rights and social vulnerability; technological innovations and sustainability; environmental crimes and public security, and also a panel on Forest Fires in Pará. The seminar is being held in the auditorium of Unifamaz, in Belém.
