Therapeutic Outing Brings Hope and Well-Being to Children at the Regional Hospital of Marabá
Action with patients from the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, medium and high complexity sector, promotes monitored outings to humanize care
The Regional Hospital of Southeast Pará – Dr. Geraldo Veloso (HRSP), in Marabá, has transformed the routine of children hospitalized in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with the "Therapeutic Outing" project. Led by the Physiotherapy service, the initiative offers brief moments outdoors in the hospital's external areas, bringing lightness to treatment and a positive impact on the mood and well-being of the little patients.
Moisés dos Santos, 2 years old, a resident of Curionópolis, in the Carajás region, was hospitalized for 15 days in the Pediatric ICU of the Pará government unit and participated in one of the outings alongside his mother, Jaciany dos Santos. She summarized the effect of the experience on her son's life.
"My son was so happy to get out of the room a little and see the sky, feel the wind. He had been hospitalized for many days, and being able to take a walk, see the movement, was special. It is a care that goes beyond medical treatment and brings hope," Jaciany acknowledged.
Francinete Souza, a resident of Itupiranga, in the Tucuruí Lake region, mother of Júlio Cezar, only four months old and hospitalized for nine days in the Pediatric ICU, celebrated the experience. "Seeing my son smile and distract himself outside the ICU renews our strength. These moments show how dedicated the team is not only to treatment but to human care, looking at our children with affection and sensitivity," the mother highlighted emotionally.
How it works
The initiative, carried out at the hospital, under the management of the Institute of Social and Environmental Health of the Amazon (ISSAA) in partnership with the State Department of Public Health of Pará (Sespa), aims to humanize care, offer well-being, and contribute to the recovery of children facing long periods of hospitalization in the Pediatric ICU of the unit.
According to Thaynara Mesquita, responsible for the Physiotherapy service in the unit, the project combines technique and sensitivity. "In the therapeutic outing, we provide the children in the ICU with stimuli different from those they find in bed. We ensure safe transportation, monitor clinical parameters, and allow contact with the external environment, contributing to physical and emotional well-being," she stated.
The physiotherapist adds that the experience also strengthens the bond between families and the health team. "Every smile, every joyful look from these children confirms that we are on the right path. These are simple gestures, but they can transform the hospital routine and accelerate recovery. It is proof that human care can be as therapeutic as any clinical procedure," she concluded.
The project relies on the dedication of physiotherapists Emilly Farias, Luciana Silvestre, and Ueliton Sirqueira, who come together to transform each outing into a gesture of care and hope. Together, the professionals demonstrate that comprehensive health care goes beyond clinical procedures, reaching families and making treatment more humane and welcoming.
