The Economic Development Company of Pará (Codec) held a meeting on Tuesday (19) with representatives from the City Hall of Oriximiná to align preparations for the Local Economic Development Induction Seminar, which will take place in the municipality on September 24, at 6 PM, at the Integrated Operations and Security Center (Ciops) in that municipality.

The meeting defined the initial steps for the event, which will have a regional character, covering the area of influence of the municipality. In addition to Oriximiná, Codec will invite municipalities from the Trombetas region to participate in the seminar, broadening the debate in a joint development agenda.

The seminar will bring together representatives from the public power, universities, civil society, and local businesses, aiming to discuss strategies capable of boosting the productive potential of the region, such as fishing, agriculture, tourism, bioeconomy, mining, and also timber, a sector that has historically marked the economy of Oriximiná but is still little considered in official indicators.

On the occasion, the municipal secretary of Planning and Administration of Oriximiná, João Bosco de Oliveira, reinforced the need to diversify the economic base in light of low municipal revenue and infrastructure challenges. “Timber was the beginning of everything in Oriximiná, and very little is mentioned in the indicators. Today, about 15,000 cubic meters of timber per month resulting from industrial suppression end up being wasted and buried,” he noted.

He also emphasized the City Hall's satisfaction in hosting the seminar and highlighted that the expectation is for the meeting to be a strategic space to unite forces, identify alternatives, and open new investment possibilities aimed at the region's development.

According to Aline Tavares, manager of Development and Economic Studies at Codec, the Company's work is built in partnership with municipalities. “It is not a unilateral job. Codec comes to cooperate, open perspectives, offer technical support, and contribute so that together with the municipalities, it can generate income throughout Pará,” she stated.

Augusto César Anunciação, manager of Institutional Relations at Codec, reinforced that integration is essential to generate effective results. “Our goal is to support so that products are enhanced and local initiatives reach new markets. That’s why it’s important to bring everyone together in a joint planning effort capable of generating positive effects,” he emphasized.

The seminar in Oriximiná will continue the actions initiated by Codec in the municipality, when a strategic action plan was presented to strengthen local productive chains. The initiative is part of a series of meetings that the Company has been promoting in different regions of the State, strengthening the articulation between municipal governments, the productive sector, universities, and civil society around a long-term planning for the development of Pará.
