The used bookstore stands are a highlight at the 28th Pan-Amazonian Book Fair and Multivoices, held at Hangar – Center for Conventions and Fairs of the Amazon, in Belém. Among worn-covered books, comics, CDs, and literary relics, the used bookstores offer the public a unique experience of discovery, memory, and appreciation of knowledge.

More than 15 specialized exhibitors are present at this edition, contributing to democratizing access to reading with diverse collections, affordable prices, and out-of-print works. The presence of used bookstores strengthens the inclusive and formative character of the fair, promoted by the State Government through the Cultural Foundation of Pará (FCP).

Diverse collection and preserved stories

Participating for the first time in the fair, Seboara Livros drew attention for its variety of works and formats. “Here you will find comics in deluxe editions and monthly magazines, books on psychology, philosophy, sociology, law, grammar, calculus, physics, chemistry, and literary novels. Even works from publishers that no longer exist are available,” highlighted bookseller Jean Tapajós.

With over five years of operation in the market, Seboara is an example of the cultural role played by used bookstores: preserving and sharing knowledge. “The true value lies in the rare content and the finds that spark the interest of attentive and curious readers. It is a way to keep memories and collections alive,” he added.

Another exhibitor, Sebo da Galeria, is participating in the fair for the fourth time and brings a collection focused on the humanities. Bookseller Thomas Carvalho reported the positive impact of being present at the event. “We receive older people, teachers, and also young people who often have never had contact with a used bookstore. The fair space is a place of resistance, gratitude, and appreciation for the work we do with such care,” he stated.

Used bookstores connect generations through reading

The diversity of the audience visiting the stands reinforces the role of used bookstores as bridges between generations. Philosophy professor Joel Torres, 49, recalls the beginning of his passion for books in the halls of the Arthur Vianna Public Library. “I found relics and important books for my studies in used bookstores. Democratizing this access within an event like the fair is essential,” he stated.

Bruno Rodrigues

Student Bruno Rodrigues, 21, also shared his relationship with this universe. “Many out-of-print and rare editions I only find in used bookstores. It’s a true paradise of golden finds,” he said, highlighting the cultural and emotional value of these spaces.
