Educational and research institutions of the Legal Amazon will present proposals for COP30
Uepa will participate in an event in Manaus with the Presidency of COP30, aiming to contribute to the fight against climate change
The State University of Pará (Uepa) will play a prominent role in the Meeting of the Scientific and Technological Community of the Amazon with the Presidency of COP30, which will be held on August 19 and 20 at the Federal University of Amazonas (Ufam) in Manaus (AM). The rector of Uepa, Professor Clay Anderson Nunes Chagas, will represent the state universities of the region and will be part of the opening panel alongside national and international authorities, including the president of the global conference on climate change in Brazil, Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago.
The event will bring together more than 200 researchers and representatives from 40 educational and research institutions in the Legal Amazon, who will present a document with proposals for the Action Agenda of the Global Effort against Climate Change (2025-2035) and for COP30, scheduled for November in Belém. The document is the result of a collective effort involving universities, federal institutes, and scientific organizations, with the active participation of Uepa.
“I am here as a representative of the Forum of Rectors of the Amazon Region and the Brazilian Association of Rectors of State and Municipal Universities. A group was formed that, through a joint debate, constructed this document. It is important that the institutions producing science in the Amazon are heard and contribute with concrete solutions to face climate change,” emphasized Rector Clay Chagas.

Thematic - During the program, the debates will be organized into thematic axes, covering energy transition, sustainable management of forests, oceans and biodiversity, transformation of agriculture, urban resilience, human and social development, as well as financing, innovation, and governance.
Uepa will also be represented by the Pro-Rector of Research and Graduate Studies, Luanna Fernandes, and by Professor Carlos José Capela Bispo, who will participate as a speaker in the axis on Resilience in Cities, Infrastructure, and Water.
The meeting will also feature the participation of Brazil's First Lady and special envoy of COP30, Rosângela Lula da Silva (Janja), in the closing program.
The document produced will be officially delivered to the president of COP30 and other authorities, reinforcing the unified voice of the Amazon scientific community in building sustainable policies and actions for the planet.
