Postpartum women participated in the proposed activity and approved the initiative of the Humanization Working Group

The General Hospital of Tailândia (HGT) held a special activity for postpartum women, pregnant women, and their companions on Wednesday (13), focusing on guidance about breastfeeding, in reference to Golden August — a month dedicated to promoting breastfeeding. Recognized as a reference in maternal and child care in the city and region, HGT performs an average of 120 deliveries per month and gathered 15 participants on this occasion for a meeting marked by learning and sharing experiences.

The action was coordinated by the Humanization Working Group (GTH) of the unit and took place at 4 PM in the playroom. The meeting began with a brief musical ambiance, performed by a volunteer from the group, who played the flute, creating a welcoming atmosphere for the mothers and pregnant women. Postpartum women who had their babies at HGT's maternity ward and pregnant women awaiting obstetric care participated.

Nutritionist Julianne Albuquerque talks to mothers and pregnant women about nutrition during the breastfeeding period

During the discussion circle, the nurse from the Normal Delivery Center (CPN), Amanda Fernandes, emphasized that breastfeeding provides all the necessary nutrients for the baby in the first months and strengthens the immune system.

“We are guiding mothers and pregnant women, especially first-time mothers, about the importance of breastfeeding. Breast milk meets the nutritional needs of the baby in the first months, strengthens the immune system, and contributes to the mother's recovery. We addressed the importance of colostrum, rich in antibodies, Exclusive Breastfeeding (EBF) until six months, and the correct latch, essential to prevent fissures and ensure adequate feeding for the baby,” reported the professional.

Maria Juliana is 41 weeks pregnant and also participated in the action while waiting for care

User Maria Juliana, who is 41 weeks pregnant and waiting for obstetric evaluation, was one of the participants in the action. “The action was very beautiful and necessary. Especially because prenatal care often occurs quickly, without detailing important information and guidance for pregnant women, such as breastfeeding. Bridging the knowledge and postpartum women brings many benefits for the babies and the mothers,” reported Juliana.

During the lectures, participants were able to ask questions about the topic and received personalized guidance presented in a dynamic way.

The activity also included nutritionist Julianne Albuquerque, who provided guidance on the mother's diet during the breastfeeding period. “The nursing mother's diet should be varied and balanced, prioritizing natural foods such as fruits, vegetables, legumes, and quality proteins. A good diet helps in milk production and the mother's well-being. Breastfeeding is not just feeding; it is an act that strengthens the bond and contributes to the health of both,” she highlighted.

Nurse Amanda Fernandes emphasized that breastfeeding provides all the necessary nutrients for the baby

At the end of the lectures, participants received symbolic mementos related to the theme and were able to share a moment of fellowship, with the offering of fruits and juices. The activity reinforced the importance of welcoming and information to promote breastfeeding in a healthy and safe manner.

Data - As a reference for maternal and child care, in just the first half of this year, HGT performed more than 708 deliveries, including cesarean and normal births. The hospital unit provides continuous care, including pediatricians 24 hours a day and obstetric gynecologists, ensuring specialized and quality support for mothers and their newborns.

Informative materials about breastfeeding were distributed to participants

“This action is part of a set of strategies we have adopted to strengthen maternal care and encourage breastfeeding. Our commitment is to continuously offer activities that combine information, support, and quality care, ensuring better outcomes for mothers and babies,” stated the executive director, Eduardo Pereira.
