The governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, and the vice governor, Hana Ghassan, inspected on last Tuesday (12), the construction works of the Linear Park of Nova Doca, in Belém. With 96% completion, the project is part of the legacy of the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), which will take place in the capital of Pará in November.

The Nova Doca was designed to offer diverse leisure and social spaces, including areas for sports practices, contemplation, food, and children's recreation. Among the planned facilities are a metal walkway with a viewpoint, kiosks, gardens, a picnic area, event space, pet area, road urbanization, playground, outdoor gym, and interactive fountain.

During the inspection, the governor and the vice governor walked through the eight blocks of the avenue. In most of them, the fences have already been removed, allowing the population to follow the progress of the interventions.

“We are reaching Block 8, the last to be completed. It is a project with sustainability, accessibility, and that delivers to Belém a new point of leisure and tourism, making our city better and better,” said Helder Barbalho.

Hana Ghassan highlighted the economic impact of the project. “There are 500 workers working to deliver this project as quickly as possible,” said the vice governor.

Infrastructure - The Linear Park of Nova Doca is the result of a partnership between the Government of Pará and the Federal Government, through Itaipu Binacional. Executed by the State Department of Public Works (Seop), the intervention covers 1.2 kilometers of canal, with drainage, landscaping, urbanization, bike paths, and new walkways. The project also includes the replacement of the gates for tide control and flood prevention, as well as sanitation and macro-drainage works to reduce flooding and eliminate the irregular discharge of sewage into the canal, improving water quality.

More than 2.4 kilometers of Avenida Visconde de Souza Franco will be paved, and new deep and surface drainage systems, a sanitary sewage network, and drinking water piping will be constructed. The canal has also undergone cleaning and reconstruction of the bottom and walls, installation of architectural elements, and landscaping.

A resident of the area for five years, physiotherapist Celina Cardoso is eager for the completion of the work, highlighting the appreciation that the park will bring to the region. “The neighborhood is strategic, and having an area like this, with leisure options, close to home is important. I have small children who will enjoy the space a lot, which will still offer everything for free,” she celebrates.

Ballet of Waters

One of the facilities that already catches the attention of those passing by Nova Doca, especially at night, is the Ballet of Waters. The attraction features 64 illuminated water jets with color variations and scheduled performances, spread over 121 m². Two water mirrors complete the set, also illuminated and automated.

The space is located next to the metal walkway that connects Blocks 1 and 2, creating new observation points and enhancing the visual route of the park. The attraction is part of the urban requalification project that transforms the landscape of Avenida Visconde de Souza Franco, one of the most well-known in Belém. The intervention extends along the Doca canal, with the proposal to create a large public space, with modern infrastructure and multiple uses, aimed at leisure, culture, and contact with nature.
