The State Traffic Department (Detran) started a training course for traffic inspection and operation agents for 50 municipal guards from the Municipal Secretariat of Security, Public Order, and Urban Mobility of Belém (Segbel) on the morning of this Monday (11), aiming at the technical cooperation of Detran. Held in the João Marques auditorium, the course includes the participation of traffic professionals. The schedule will operate in both theoretical and practical formats, totaling 200 hours, which will take place until September 18, in the morning and afternoon hours.

The administrative assistant of Detran, Cleide Almeida, emphasized that the department she works in is responsible for the training and explained how the course will function for the municipal guards. "I am one of the people responsible for the department that works in the area of training activities. The course was requested by Segbel for the municipal guards. It is a training course for traffic inspection and operation agents, who are already integrated into traffic work and will operate in Belém. There are 50 participants, both men and women. The municipal guards already work in traffic, for example, guiding and, as they say, demanding from the population behaviors such as crossing at the crosswalk or respecting the red light. Now, they will act directly in traffic, just like Detran agents," she highlighted.

Ângela Coutinho, psychologist

The psychologist Ângela Coutinho, 51, emphasized how applied psychology is important for the daily lives of these new agents and how dialogue is essential in the training of municipal guards. "I am leading this qualification process, in which I will be working with these agents for four days, addressing themes related to applied psychology, traffic psychology, and ethics in public administration. The goal is precisely to offer them new strategies for the development of activities, aiming to better serve the user, the citizen out there, and make traffic something more humanized. Our goal is to qualify to provide excellent service," she commented.

The purpose of the course is to prepare municipal guards to perform specific functions in traffic, such as signaling and inspection, taking on more responsibilities, with the aim of consolidating the integration of the guards, initially restricted to the perimeter of the capital. In addition, the training emphasizes the importance of accident prevention, accessibility, urban mobility, and the well-being of the population.

Roberto Campos, inspector of the Municipal Guard of Belém

The inspector of the Municipal Guard of Belém, Roberto Campos, 59, highlighted that the municipal guards have been out of this role for a long time, and that this will now improve traffic safety simply because they will be able to take on more responsibilities. "For the Municipal Guard of Belém, today, this traffic training, aimed at traffic authority agents, is important because it will provide more safety for the population and strengthen the inspection power that we already exercise in street policing. The Municipal Guard is returning to traffic after 14 years without direct action. Some have already taken traffic courses, others have not. The Traffic Code is quite broad, and now we are expanding our knowledge. For the Municipal Guard, it is very important to collaborate more with Segbel and help improve traffic flow in our city," he explained.

Training Schedule for Municipal Guards:
Duration: 6 weeks, from 11/08 to 18/09/2025
Content covered: Applied psychology, Traffic psychology, Ethics in public administration
Objective: Offer new strategies for activity development; improve user service; make traffic more humanized
