The governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, accompanied, on the morning of this Friday (8), the final stretch of the construction of 25 blocks of housing units in the area of the old Santo Antônio Tannery, in the Terra Firme neighborhood, in Belém. In total, 400 families from Pará will benefit for free from another investment by the Government of Pará aimed at ensuring safe and comfortable housing, resulting in stability and social well-being.

“We have reached 97% of the works completed, with delivery expected in September. These are apartments that will be allocated to families who lived on this land and to those who were living near the Tucunduba Canal and had to be relocated due to the macro-drainage works,” highlighted Governor Helder Barbalho.

He added: "All apartments will be delivered free of charge to these people, with no need for payment of installments. It is the Government of Pará, together with the City Hall of Belém, fulfilling the mission of working with social justice, taking care of those who need it most.”

Governor Helder Barbalho was accompanied by the First Lady of the State, Daniela Barbalho; the mayor of Belém, Igor Normando; and city councilors from the capital. Igor Normando noted the importance of the work, which has already ensured the generation of around 350 direct jobs.

“This work is fundamental, it rescues a historical commitment of the Government of Pará to the population, understanding that the housing segment is one of the priorities. Many of these families lived on the banks of the Tucunduba River, which was channeled and drained, one of the largest investments in macro-drainage in the history of Belém. Governor Helder Barbalho managed to resume the work and starting in September these families will have a home to live in,” said Mayor Igor Normando.

Each residential block will have 16 apartments, on four floors, in addition to community facilities such as a sports court and playground. The apartment will have almost 40 square meters, including a living room, dining room, kitchen, service area, bathroom, and two bedrooms. Of the 400 housing units, part is designated for People with Disabilities (PwDs).

Through the State Secretariat of Public Works (Seop), the work on the blocks is almost all at the structural stage completed, in the finishing phase, with the installation of floor and wall coverings, and hydraulic and electrical installations. The investment from the state treasury is around R$ 90 million.

Quality of life – The construction is part of the Integrated Sanitation Project of the Tucunduba Basin, which since 2019 has guaranteed more infrastructure to the population of the neighborhoods of Belém.

For the construction of the housing units, the project includes structural recovery, foundation and structure execution, roofing, installation of frames, ceramic cladding, ceramic flooring, internal and external painting, electrical and hydraulic installations, execution of fire prevention and combat network and SPDA (Atmospheric Discharge Protection System), in addition to external infrastructure, which will include the construction of an elevated reservoir, water supply network, sewage collection network, storm drainage network, and urbanization.
