Mangueirão receives lilac lighting in tribute to the 19th anniversary of the Maria da Penha Law
The action by the Government of Pará integrates the August Lilac campaign and reinforces the commitment to combating violence against women

The Olympic Stadium of Pará - Journalist Edgar Proença, Mangueirão, was illuminated in lilac on the night of this Thursday (7), in Belém, as part of the actions of the Government of Pará in the August Lilac campaign. The initiative marks the 19th anniversary of the Maria da Penha Law, one of the main legal milestones in combating violence against women in Brazil.
The symbolic tribute, promoted by the State Secretariat of Sports and Leisure (Seel), highlights the role of sports facilities as spaces for citizenship, awareness, and social inclusion.
“The lilac lighting at Mangueirão is more than a tribute; it is a symbol of our commitment to the fight against violence against women. Celebrating the 19 years of the Maria da Penha Law reaffirms the importance of this instrument of protection and respect for women. Making this symbolic act contributes to a message of awareness through sports and our public facilities,” said the head of Seel, Cássio Andrade.

Emotion and awareness
The action moved the staff who work in the management of the stadium. Carmem de Paula, advisor to the Events and Marketing Directorate of Seel, highlighted the significance of the symbolic gesture in combating violence against women.
“Today I felt emotional and with a feeling of strength in my soul when I saw the photo of Mangueirão illuminated in lilac. As an activist of the movement, this act means a lot to all women. The more awareness society has, the more empowerment we will have. Despite the advances, the law alone cannot change the scenario of violence; it is necessary to work on awareness and cultural change,” she stated.
The director of Mangueirão, Maurício Bororó, also emphasized the importance of the initiative.

“This symbolic act represents the fight and confrontation against domestic, sexual, verbal, and physical violence against our women, mothers, and daughters. And seeing Mangueirão all lilac moves me,” he said.
August Lilac and reporting channels
The August Lilac campaign is dedicated to raising awareness, prevention, and combating violence against women. The initiative reinforces the importance of knowing the different types of violence – physical, sexual, psychological, moral, and patrimonial – and disseminating reporting and protection channels.
Among the main support mechanisms are the Ligue 180, a free and confidential channel that operates 24 hours, and the Human Rights Brazil app, which allows for quick and accessible reporting of complaints.
About the Maria da Penha Law
Sanctioned on August 7, 2006, the Maria da Penha Law is considered one of the most advanced legislations in combating gender violence. The law provides protective measures for women in situations of risk and typifies different forms of violence, such as:
Physical: assaults that cause pain or injury, such as slaps, punches, and pushes.
Psychological: threats, humiliations, and social isolation.
Sexual: forced relations and practices that violate sexual and reproductive rights.
Patrimonial: destruction, retention, or subtraction of goods, documents, or financial resources.
Moral: slander, defamation, and injury.
The lilac lighting at Mangueirão started at 6 PM and will continue until 1 AM this Friday (8), as part of the visual awareness actions of the campaign.
