Santa Casa's Reference Service ensures comprehensive care for patients with cleft lip and palate
In the last three years, the Reference Service for Cleft Lip and Palate has conducted over 18,000 multidisciplinary consultations and surgeries and currently has 1,377 registered patients.

Around the sixth month of pregnancy, Daniele Damasceno learned that her son Jânio had a cleft lip and palate. Residing in the municipality of Senador José Porfírio, she sought to ensure that the boy received the best possible care from birth and was surprised by the excellent and 100% SUS service offered at Santa Casa do Pará.
"Since it is a very specialized service, I had to come to Belém for my son to receive care at Santa Casa, which is the reference in the State. I was surprised because I didn't imagine he would be treated so well and have access to the best professionals. Santa Casa is much more than we dream of, and besides the quality of health treatment, we are very well welcomed from the moment we enter the service," says Daniele.
In the last three years, the Reference Service for Cleft Lip and Palate has conducted over 18,000 multidisciplinary consultations and surgeries and currently has 1,377 registered patients who receive highly qualified and humanized care.
"Since April 2018, Santa Casa has been the state reference for the care of patients with cleft lip and palate and children with other craniofacial malformations. Today we have a complete team that provides comprehensive care for cleft patients because, although the aesthetic and anatomical aspects are what initially draw attention, the greatest difficulties these patients face are functional, such as speech, feeding, and significant psychosocial challenges. Therefore, it is really important to have this complete team for this care," states speech therapist Deborah Costa, coordinator of the multidisciplinary team at Santa Casa's Cleft Clinic.
The multidisciplinary team consists of psychologists, speech therapists, nurses, doctors, and dentists, among other professionals. The service also has state-of-the-art facilities and equipment for conducting diagnostic tests and monitoring the quality of life of patients.
