Workshop 'Findings of Life' promotes emotional reconnection among pre-release women at Seap
Initiative bets on a tool to strengthen personal autonomy and support the social reintegration of people deprived of liberty
The workshop with a therapeutic format, promoted by the State Secretariat of Penitentiary Administration (SEAP), through the biopsychosocial team of the Women's Custody and Reintegration Unit of Ananindeua (UCRF – Ananindeua), provided a moment of listening and emotional reconnection for 10 pre-release women. Named 'Findings of Life: what is behind the image?', the moment carries teachings for emotional management and personal development of the inmates who are being prepared for the social environment.
The objective is to open doors to appropriately introduce them into society, seeking to favor the development of strategies for problem-solving and the construction of new perspectives, supporting the life project and social reintegration after deprivation of liberty. It also had a therapeutic focus on stimulating visual perception and the re-signification of self-image, promoting the recognition of potentialities, strengthening autonomy, self-confidence, and hope.
The activity was conducted by occupational therapist Ethuanny Lage, a specialist in mental health. According to the professional, the workshop sought more than the development of cognitive skills. "This workshop aimed to stimulate mindfulness, helping to focus on the present and develop detailed perception, which are fundamental for emotional and occupational balance at the moment of transition to freedom,” detailed the therapist.
Through the observation of images, participants were invited to find hidden elements, exercising patience and concentration. The final metaphor proposed brought forth a sensitive reflection, “what was hidden in the image may also be hidden within us: strengths, paths, and opportunities waiting to be revealed with patience and attention,” explained the professional.
Purpose - By promoting moments like this, the workshop contributes to the participants reclaiming their identity, recognizing their abilities, and seeing themselves as subjects of transformative potential. This emotional strengthening is essential for facing the challenges that arise upon returning to life in society, such as reintegration into the job market and adapting to new routines.
Moreover, the activity helps restore self-confidence and the sense of belonging, important pillars in building a purposeful life project. By encouraging a more compassionate and clear look at themselves, the inmates are encouraged to visualize possible paths, even in the face of adversities. Thus, workshops like this play a strategic role in promoting autonomy and resilience, strengthening not only individual emotional health but also contributing to the construction of a more effective, humanized, and sustainable social reintegration.
