“I lived in a mud house my whole life, and I always dreamed of building it just like this, in masonry, fully finished, every corner is a special place for me here inside, and now I also have a bathroom inside the house, so I am very grateful for the benefit that changed my life,” said farmer Nilvanda do Rosário, a resident of the rural area of Bragança, in the Caeté river region, who received both phases of the housing benefit Sua Casa and completed her dream of owning a home.

Nilvanda do Rosário and another 2,500 families received the Sua Casa, which is a housing benefit aimed at the construction, renovation, expansion, improvement, or adaptation of housing units.

The program was created by the governor of the State of Pará, Helder Barbalho, through decree 8,967 of December 30, 2019, and aims to improve the quality of life of the people of Pará.

For the president of Cohab, Manoel Pioneiro, bringing the housing benefit Sua Casa to all of Pará is a great challenge. It is a work that reaches all municipalities, whether in urban or rural areas, “ensuring that families leave behind the reality of houses built of mud, of wood, which pose a greater risk in case of fires, and start to have a better quality of life,” points out Pioneiro.

The Sua Casa consists of two benefits: assistance for the acquisition of materials to be used in the construction, renovation, expansion, improvement, or adaptation of the housing unit, and assistance for the payment of the mason's labor. The housing assistance, which is free, can reach R$ 21,000.

Liane Moraes dos Santos, a recyclable materials collector from Bragança, also received both phases of the housing benefit Sua Casa. She says she lives near the dump in a precarious wooden house and did not believe she could live in a brick house. “Today my little house is good, I live better with my whole family,” said the collector.
