Canaã dos Carajás will host a marathon of innovation and social impact with the Hackathon Start in the Future, taking place from August 29 to 31. The event marks the first hackathon of the Smart City Canaã project and is supported by the Guamá Science and Technology Park (PCT), among other partner institutions.

The initiative will bring together young talents, specialists, and investors in an immersive journey aimed at creating sustainable, smart, and inclusive urban solutions. The three best ideas developed over the three days of activities will receive cash prizes totaling R$ 12,000, with R$ 6,000 for first place, R$ 4,000 for second, and R$ 2,000 for third.

Focusing on local and regional youth, the hackathon seeks to connect municipal agendas to global challenges. During the event, participants will have access to workshops, mentorships with specialists, and networking opportunities with entrepreneurs, leaders, and investors working in areas such as urban mobility, digital inclusion, environmental issues, creative economy, and data intelligence.

Teams will work on proposals for themes such as sustainable cities, social inclusion, education, health, public spaces, and climate resilience.

“More than just a one-time event, the Hackathon Start in the Future is a platform that prepares young people to contribute to building the cities of tomorrow. It is also an important step for Canaã to strongly enter the map of innovation and the global climate agenda,” says Renato Francês, coordinator of the Smart City Canaã Project and technical director of the Guamá Foundation, the science and technology institution managing the PCT Guamá.

Registration is free on the website hackastartnofuturo.city and is aimed at teams of three to five people, with at least one member residing in Canaã dos Carajás and 50% of the members being high school, technical, or university students. Submission must be made with a preliminary idea focused on more sustainable cities, which can be developed during the event.
