Minicircuito itinerante: education for safe traffic starts in childhood

The State Department of Transit (Detran) concluded Operation Summer 2025 with a positive outcome regarding driver behavior on the highways. The agency assesses that drivers who used the road in July are more cautious, especially regarding the use of seat belts by all vehicle occupants and helmets by motorcyclists.

This year, more than 80 agents conducted educational approaches in Salinópolis, Mosqueiro Island (district of Belém), Bragança, Moju, Barcarena, and Abaetetuba, in addition to the capital. Concluded on July 30, the educational operation aimed to guide and prevent summer visitors regarding risk factors for accidents.

Approach to check documentation and guide drivers

In Salinópolis, one of the most sought-after destinations in July, road education actions took place on public roads, on the beach, and in leisure areas with higher vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Guidance on high tide, crossing at pedestrian crossings, and safe driving behavior was provided to visitors, aiming to save lives.

Minicircuito - The teams also held a special program for children and guardians in the mobile minicircuit trailer, with playful programming about safe traffic behavior from early childhood. “In Salinópolis, the overall reception was great. What we noticed most is that, compared to the last three years, practically all the people approached were using helmets and seat belts, even in the back seat, which highlights the positive result of the agency's persistent actions throughout these operations,” evaluated Education agent César Mayrinck.

Guidance to summer visitors on the beaches

On PA-391, the highway that connects downtown Belém to Mosqueiro Island, educational actions were diversified and concentrated at Detran's inspection posts in Benevides and Santa Bárbara do Pará, and on the island's beaches, due to the heavy vehicle traffic.

“It is evident that the culture of using seat belts in the back seat has changed quite radically in the last operations. People are understanding this obligation and the importance of this equipment for everyone's safety, not just for the driver and front seat passenger. Similarly, the use of helmets. We observed that everyone was using this important safety item, including with the visor down and the chin strap fastened,” informed Education agent Lucas Lima.

Cutting kite - Another important guidance intensified by agents during the vacation period was the use of kite-cutting antennas, a safety instrument recommended mainly for motorcyclists, aimed at preventing traffic accidents caused by Chilean line and line with cerol. During Operation Summer, there were no reports of occurrences of this nature where Detran operated.

Despite the advances regarding drivers' attention to the main risk factors, agents believe that there are behaviors that still need to improve in all locations where Detran has been active, including excess passengers and the non-use of child restraint devices. “On several occasions we had to call for inspection and carry out the transfer of the excess passenger. There were also cases where we found vehicles with the child seat in the trunk and the child loose in the vehicle. These are extremely risky behaviors that still threaten lives on the roads and need to be corrected,” emphasized Lucas Lima.

In the 30 days of Operation Summer 2025, the education teams reached 70,910 people, with the approach of 17,803 vehicles in the seven municipalities where the agency participated in the actions. According to Detran's report, in Salinópolis and Santa Bárbara do Pará, which is on the route to Mosqueiro, men represented the majority of vehicle drivers, while in Abaetetuba, Barcarena, Bragança, and Moju, the number of female drivers of cars and motorcycles exceeded that of men.
