Macrodrenagem of the Gentil Canal expands infrastructure and ensures better quality of life in Belém
The largest macrodrenagem program in the history of the capital of Pará completes another stage, benefiting thousands of residents

Another essential infrastructure project, resulting from investments from COP 30 in Belém, the second stage of the macrodrenagem of the Gentil Bittencourt Canal will be delivered by the Government of Pará this Wednesday (6). The services have already ensured improved water drainage conditions, reducing flooding and advancing the quality of life for residents of the Canudos neighborhood and everyone passing through this area of the capital of Pará.
In January of this year, the State delivered the reconstruction of a 551-meter stretch of the Gentil Canal, located between Travessa Teófilo Conduru and Rua da Olaria. With the completion of the work, the space will have 1,421 meters completely revitalized, covering from Avenida Tucunduba to Rua Deodoro de Mendonça.
Positive impacts - Professor Letícia Alves recalls that the avenue "now has asphalt, it really got better, and the canal is also organized and very beautiful." The work, Letícia adds, brings direct positive impacts to the daily lives of residents, significantly contributing to the quality of life and urban infrastructure of Belém. "For us who live here, this has been a joy. It’s better for us to walk and even for my daughter to play in the afternoon. It’s a benefit for everyone," she emphasizes.

In addition to the requalification, the project includes new water supply, sewage, and drainage networks, as well as the construction of five bridges and eight walkways.
A resident of the area for 25 years, public servant Angélica Freitas highlights the advances resulting from the intervention of the Government of Pará. "The work is beautiful! It was a wonderful thing that the Government prepared for us. Everything is lovely! Now, we can look at this beauty that is this canal. The work is approved!" guarantees Angélica.
The work on the Gentil Bittencourt Canal is a state investment, in partnership with the Federal Government, through the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES).

Historic investments - Since 2019, the Government of Pará has invested in the requalification of 17 canals in Belém, of which 13 are considered legacies of COP 30. Among the works already delivered are the canals of Igarapé Tucunduba, Mundurucus, Timbó, Vileta, Leal Martins, Cipriano Santos, and the first stage of Gentil.
The actions are part of the largest macrodrenagem program in the history of Belém, with interventions also in the basins of Murutucu, Tamandaré, and Una, benefiting more than 500,000 people with urban infrastructure and flood prevention, essential for improving the quality of life of the population.
