In Capanema, Regional Hospital performs 453 biopsies, with a focus on mastology

As a reference in medium and high complexity in northeastern Pará, the Public Regional Hospital of Caetés (HRPC), in Capanema, performed 453 biopsies in the first semester of 2025, including skin, lymph nodes, and superficial/soft tissue punctures, prostate, thyroid, gynecological, breast nodule, cervical, and plastic surgery.

Of this total, about 90 were from the mastology specialty, which stands out for its differentiated care: in the outpatient clinic, the puncture is performed on the same day as the consultation, speeding up the diagnosis and allowing for a quicker start to treatment. Altogether, the hospital's multidisciplinary team offers seven different types of biopsies, reinforcing its commitment to early detection and the quality of care provided to the population.

The mastologist, Breno Albuquerque, highlighted the service's implementation. “The mastology outpatient clinics conducted by the Unified Health System in the State have evolved significantly with the presence of biopsy at the time of consultation, whether for examination or the first consultation presenting a palpable nodule or image through ultrasound or mammography, and when we suspect that the nodule requires a biopsy, we perform it on the same day. This optimizes the patient's waiting time for results, promoting early diagnosis.”

Diego Ribeiro, the coordinator of the HRPC Outpatient Clinic and responsible for SADT, notes that the Public Regional Hospital of Caetés has various biopsy services; however, it is a reference in mastology care. “Once the breast tissue is sent for anatomical-pathological study after the biopsy, and if positive, directed for immunohistochemical study, these are crucial steps for the initiation of breast cancer treatment. Performing the puncture on the day of the mastology consultation is a differentiator that ensures greater effectiveness in treatment and less anxiety for the patient. This organization aims for a humanized and dignified service for SUS users.”

Approval - Antonia Nataniele dos Santos Pinheiro, 33, a resident of the municipality of Santa Luzia do Pará, located 47 km from Capanema, emphasized the importance of agile care for those who need to travel from other cities. "It was good to arrive for the consultation and already be able to do the biopsy on the same day. This makes it much easier for us, both in the care process for early diagnosis and in logistics, especially for those coming from another municipality, as is my case."

The Caetés Hospital Complex is part of the state health network of the Government of Pará, through the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), and serves exclusively through the Unified Health System (SUS). The unit is located on Barão de Capanema Avenue, in the Centro neighborhood, in Capanema. More information can be obtained by phone at (91) 3122-7391.
