Pará stands out at the National Conference and IV March of Indigenous Women, which takes place until next Friday (8), in Brasília (DF). The state brought one of the largest delegations from the Amazon biome, formed by more than 700 women from different peoples and territories, who gather to assert their protagonism in defending the forest, the environment, and ancestral rights.

The representatives of the eight indigenous ethnoregions brought to the center of national decisions agendas that connect the global climate agenda to local realities: demarcation of territories, protection of biodiversity, climate justice, health, education, and appreciation of traditional knowledge.

“Pará arrives in Brasília with women who are voices and forces of their peoples. They are leaders who live daily the struggle for their territories and who now bring these agendas to the center of national decisions. We want the world to recognize that protecting the Amazon is protecting life, and that indigenous women are guardians of this commitment,” said Puyr Tembé, Secretary of State for Indigenous Peoples of Pará.

With the motto “Biomes Women: Towards the National Policy for Territorial and Environmental Management of Indigenous Lands,” the 2025 March unites political and cultural strength, promoting debates, plenaries, conversation circles, and workshops. The highlight will be a large public act on August 7, bringing together women from all Brazilian biomes in defense of life and the forest.

“The presence of women from Pará here shows the collective strength that comes from the villages. Our voice, when it echoes united, is capable of transforming policies and ensuring the future of new generations,” highlighted Maria Assurini.

Pará is represented by ethnic groups such as Tembé, Xipaya, Kayapó, Juruna, Arara, Munduruku, Araweté, Asurini, Kuruaya, Parakanã, Gavião Kyikatejê, Xikrin, Apiaká, in addition to isolated peoples. Sepi emphasizes that these are women who live in remote places, carrying in their bodies and speech the strength of their stories.

“I came from very far away to be here, but every kilometer was worth it. This is the moment to show that the indigenous women of Pará know the forest, know how to take care of it, and have concrete proposals to ensure that it remains alive and that we also understand public policies and are willing to change history and build opportunities for future generations,” said Nira Kayapó.

The participation of the Pará delegation is organized by the Secretary of Indigenous Peoples of Pará (Sepi), with the support of the government of Pará, the Federation of Indigenous Peoples of Pará (FEPIPA), which works in defense of rights, social organization, and strengthening the autonomy of indigenous peoples. In addition to the support of the State Secretariat for Women of Pará (Semu), Ministry of Indigenous Peoples, Anmiga, Funais of Tucumã, Baixo Tocantins, Altamira, Dsei Guamá, and Tocantins, Kabu Institute, and Greendata.

In the context of the March and the Conference, Sepi reinforces its articulation to increase the presence of women in the formulation of public policies and in the defense of territories and the forest.
