Symbol of Brazil becomes a showcase for the Amazon as Pará shows advances in works, qualification, and new urban spaces for the climate conference

Since 9 PM this Saturday (2), the monument to Christ the Redeemer has been illuminated with a projection marking the 100 days remaining until the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), which will be held in Belém from November 10 to 21. The exhibition, a result of the partnership between the Government of Pará and the Christ the Redeemer Sanctuary, brought images of the Amazon to Brazil's main postcard, reinforcing the central role of the forest in the planet's climate balance, as well as images of indigenous peoples, animals, the flags of Brazil and Pará, and the official logo of the conference. The visual installation will continue until 11 PM.

The gesture in Rio echoes the concrete results in Pará. In Belém and the Metropolitan Region, more than 30 structural works are underway, changing the lives of millions of people. These are investments in sanitation, mobility, green areas, and professional qualification that prepare the city to welcome representatives from over 190 countries while also leaving a permanent infrastructure for the population.

City Park: sustainable heart of COP 30

Built on the site of an old airport, City Park is now the most modern urban space in the Amazon and will be the venue for COP30. With 93% of the COP Stage completed, the park already features a lake, bike paths, a water park with slides and interactive pools, sports areas, and 2,500 trees planted, in addition to the buildings of the Creative Economy Center and the Gastronomic Center.

The project was designed to be sustainable from the outset, with rainwater harvesting, LED lighting, large-scale tree planting, and reforestation areas. In just over a month of partial opening, it has already received half a million visitors and hosted the largest public vacation colony in the Amazon, with 10,000 children and elderly people.

Starting in August, City Park will be adapted to host the Blue Zone, intended for official negotiations between countries, and the Green Zone, with programming open to civil society, scientists, and social movements.

Porto Futuro II: culture and bioeconomy on the waterfront

Another axis of urban renewal is Porto Futuro II, with 93% of the works completed. The complex will house the Museum of the Amazons, the Bioeconomy and Innovation Park, and the Caixa Museum — the first unit of Caixa Cultural in the North — consolidating a new hub for tourism, culture, and sustainable business for Belém.

Mobility and sanitation that transform the city

Macro-drainage and sanitation works are advancing in the basins of Tucunduba, Una, Murutucu, and Tamandaré. The requalification of 13 channels addresses one of the capital's biggest problems: flooding. Among those in the final delivery phase — Nova Doca (93%), Nova Tamandaré (88%), Gentil (98%), and Marambaia (87%) — the direct impact will benefit 500,000 residents with sewage disposal, reduced flooding, and urban enhancement.

In mobility, three viaducts have already been delivered, the fourth is in the final phase, and the Metropolitan BRT has reached 85% completion, modernizing BR-316 with electric buses and Euro 6, low-emission vehicles. The Belém COP30 Roadway is also progressing with paving, new signage, and the requalification of over 150 streets, connecting peripheral neighborhoods and central areas.

Capacita COP30: professional training beyond the event

Capacita COP30 is another strategic front. The program has already qualified 22,000 workers in over 100 courses focused on tourism, infrastructure, and services, in partnership with Sest/Senat, Sebrae, Coca-Cola, Cielo, and more than 25 public and private institutions. The initiative expands job opportunities during the conference and creates permanent skills for the local economy.

The projection on Christ the Redeemer is a synthesis of a turning point: the Amazon at the center of global attention and Belém in accelerated transformation. Pará reaches the final stretch for COP30 with advanced works, new urban spaces, qualified workers, and historic environmental results — an urban, social, and environmental legacy that goes far beyond the 12 days of the conference and positions the region as a reference in the climate debate.
