Third Integrated River Base 'Baixo Tocantins' presents 100% of the work completed
The new Integrated River Base for Public Safety is ready to be installed in the city of Abaetetuba, located in Baixo Tocantins
The "Baixo Tocantins" Base is the third Integrated River Base for Public Safety in the State and will be designated for the municipality of Abaetetuba, aiming to further strengthen security actions on the rivers of Pará. Executed by the State Government, through the Secretary of Public Safety and Social Defense (Segup), the newest Base already shows 100% of the naval work completed, moving towards the finalization of the visual identity and construction of the civil front, at Furo do Capim, where it will soon be installed, fulfilling the main strategy of monitoring and controlling the flow of vessels navigating near the Baixo Tocantins region.
"This is our third Integrated River Base, corresponding to our strategic planning to combat crime in the river network of the State. With this new structure, we can maintain our presence at the main river points in the State, especially those used as trafficking routes. The 'Baixo Tocantins' Base has the main objective of ensuring greater security not only at the entrance of the Tocantins River but also in the vicinity of Vila do Conde. We have recognized productivity with the presence of the bases, such as in the Marajó region, with the Antônio Lemos Base, and in Baixo Amazonas, with the Candiru Base. This will be our third base, thus completing the strategy of maintaining oversight and monitoring of the river network of the State," emphasized the Secretary of Public Safety and Social Defense of Pará, Ualame Machado.
The Baixo Tocantins River Base will be positioned in an important location on the Tocantins River, more specifically, at Furo do Capim, in the city of Abaetetuba. The strategic location aims at the seizure and confrontation of organized crime, considering that this is one of the main distribution points for trafficking heading towards other countries, as highlighted by the head of Segup. "This is the last passage point for vessels that may serve as transportation for drug trafficking, as well as for other types of crimes, since the port of Vila do Conde is known to be one of the routes that connects us to other countries in Latin America, and our strategy is to monitor this flow of vessels, with the aim of intercepting clandestine cargoes before they cross our borders," said Ualame Machado.
Structure - The new base was built in two fronts of service, one of which is in Belém, with the naval construction of the work, which includes the main floating structure, that is, with all its physical structure assembled, containing reception, dormitories, bathrooms, kitchen, monitoring room, in addition to two cells and intermediate floats that will assist in its support in the river area, as well as articulated walkways that will provide access to the Base, both for vessels and for the land part. The next step in the work will proceed to the civil front and will take place in the municipality of Abaetetuba, at Furo do Capim, with the construction of a port with a terminal for access via land.
Integration - The integration between the forces is the main differential of the River Bases. The new Base will have the presence of the agencies of the Public Safety System, as well as environmental and customs inspection agencies, both at the state and municipal levels. The base will be used for service in the region and will have the presence of agents from the Civil, Military, and Federal Police, Fire Department, Public Safety River Group (Gflu), and also officials from the Secretary of Finance and Federal Revenue.
River Safety - This is the third Integrated River Base for Public Safety that the State is finalizing, having its first Base installed in the District of Antônio Lemos, in the municipality of Breves, in the Marajó region. The second Base is installed in the strait of Óbidos, in the Baixo Amazonas region. Both have already resulted in significant drug seizures from vessels, and also in the dismantling of criminal actions, ensuring greater safety for the riverside population of the region.
