With almost eight months of operation, the Hemodialysis Center of the General Hospital of Tailândia (HGT) has already performed more than 2,710 sessions, averaging 450 monthly treatments. The unit monitors 45 active patients, with sessions from Monday to Saturday, in two shifts. In addition to dialysis, the service includes consultations, exams, and clinical follow-up, with a satisfaction rate of 95%.

The Center's structure includes 31 professionals, including nephrologists, nurses, nursing technicians, a nutritionist, a psychologist, social workers, and support staff. The collaborative work allows for continuous and integrated care for chronic kidney patients and also for those with acute kidney injury treated at the hospital. The service operates based on updated clinical protocols, ensuring that each dialysis session meets safety and efficacy criteria.

In June, the Center recorded an average kt/V of 1.33 — a value above the minimum recommended of 1.2 — an indicator that assesses the efficiency in removing toxins during the procedure. This index reinforces the quality of the service provided and the effectiveness of clinical follow-up.

According to nephrologist Nicola Oliver, this follow-up requires daily attention and constant planning. "The nephrologist's role is to monitor the evolution of each patient, define the most appropriate type of treatment, adjust medications, and ensure that the results of the sessions are within the recommended standards," explains the specialist.

Doctor Nicola Oliver: "The nephrologist defines the most appropriate treatment, adjusts medications, and monitors the patient's evolution," emphasizes the doctor.

The service also provides individualized follow-up, with periodic clinical evaluations, therapeutic adjustments, and educational actions for disease management. "It's not just about applying a protocol. Each patient has a history, a response to treatment, and a specific need. Therefore, the follow-up needs to be individualized and constant," Nicola adds.

Approval - Among the patients treated by the nephrologist team at the HGT Hemodialysis Center is Débora dos Santos, 23. She was discharged from dialysis treatment on the last day (25) of July. The young woman started her follow-up in March of this year and, after almost five months of regular sessions, showed clinical progress that allowed for the interruption of therapy. For her, the period was marked by challenges, overcoming, and continuous professional support.

"The nephrologist's follow-up made all the difference in my recovery. From the beginning, I was guided, my doubts were answered, and I felt that there was real care for my health. Every step was closely monitored, and that gave me the confidence to face the treatment," Débora reported.

The relevance of nephrology assistance is further highlighted this Saturday (2), the date on which the Day of the Nephrologist is celebrated. The date also draws attention to the importance of maintaining and strengthening public policies aimed at nephrological care, expanding the population's access to early diagnosis, regular treatment, and the necessary structure for controlling kidney diseases.
