During the weekends in July, teams from the Araguaia Administrative Region Management (GRA) of the Forest Development and Biodiversity Institute of the State of Pará (Ideflor-Bio) have been raising awareness among tourists, bathers, and residents of São Geraldo do Araguaia, in the southeastern region of Pará, about the importance of preserving natural resources during the summer season. The activities take place on the beaches of Santa Cruz, Ilha de Campo, and Remanso dos Botos, located near the Serra dos Martírios/Andorinhas State Park.

The initiative is part of the Summer Operation 2025 program and is supported by the Environmental Police Battalion (BPA), which assists in educational outreach and the distribution of informational materials. Additionally, thematic kits are provided for children and beachgoers, playfully and warmly reinforcing messages of care for the environment.

According to the manager of the Araguaia Administrative Region of Ideflor-Bio, Laís Mercedes, direct contact with summer visitors is an effective strategy for promoting behavioral changes. “Our presence on the beaches is a way to create a bond with the community and visitors. The message we want to convey is that everyone has a role in conserving our natural heritage, especially during the summer when there is greater pressure on ecosystems,” she emphasized.

Awareness - During the action, guidelines are provided on the correct disposal of waste, respect for local fauna and flora, and responsible use of natural areas. There is also space for conversations and active listening from residents about the main challenges faced by the community regarding the environment.

The action has been well received by those enjoying the day at the beach. Summer visitor Luciana Souza, who was with her family, praised the educational approach. “I thought it was wonderful to see this concern for the environment. Sometimes we have no idea of the impact that small actions can cause. I leave here with more awareness and will teach this to my children as well,” she stated.

In this way, the Government of Pará, through Ideflor-Bio, has reaffirmed its commitment to participatory management of Conservation Units and to promoting environmental education as a tool for sustainable development in the communities of interior Pará.
