The Regional Public Hospital of the East (HRPL), in Paragominas, managed by the Instituto Diretrizes in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), has been part of the national project "Health in Our Hands" since November 2023, promoted by the Ministry of Health through the Institutional Development Support Program of SUS (Proadi-SUS), in partnership with six excellence hospitals in the country.

Thanks to the significant results achieved, HRPL was one of 34 hospitals selected from over 300 participating units across Brazil to expand the project's actions to the Emergency Care as well. The initiative reinforces the unit's commitment to patient safety and the quality of care provided.

Focus on safety and qualification

With technical assistance from the Beneficência Portuguesa de São Paulo, HRPL began actions in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), aiming to reduce Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs) by 50%. The management prioritizes patient safety and the qualification of care processes. In the first half of 2025, the unit recorded an average approval rating of 98.63% among users.

Wenison Costa, nurse and supervisor of the Hospital Infection Control Service (SCIH), highlights the advances made with the project. "Since joining, we have implemented several improvements focused on reducing HAIs, especially in the ICU, where the project started," he explained.

HRPL was also invited to participate in the 1st In-Person Learning Session (SAP), held in São Paulo. "During the event, we participated in workshops that are being replicated with the entire care and multiprofessional team in the ICU throughout July," added the nurse.

Approval from the population

Admitted to the unit for a surgical procedure, user Genivaldo da Silva e Silva, 49, praised the care. "This is my first time being admitted to HRPL, and everyone deserves congratulations. I am being very well taken care of," he stated.
