Cine Líbero Luxardo premieres restored 4k copy of 'Iracema - Uma Transa Amazônica'
The classic from 1974 is showing alongside other highlights of the program such as “Cazuza, Boas Novas” and the suspense feature “Cloud – Nuvem de Vingança”

Cine Líbero Luxardo, located in Belém, premieres the classic film from 1974 “Iracema - Uma Transa Amazônica” this Thursday (24th) at 8 PM. In addition to the premiere, the documentary “Cazuza, Boas Novas” and the Japanese feature “Cloud – Nuvem de Vingança” are other highlights of the program. The films will be showing until next Wednesday (30/07).
The film “Iracema - Uma Transa Amazônica”, directed by Jorge Bodanzky and Orlando Senna, returns to theaters 50 years after its premiere in a restored 4K version, which means that the old film has undergone a digital restoration process to improve its image and sound quality.

The feature “Iracema - Uma Transa Amazônica” was censored by the military dictatorship in 1974 due to its critical content regarding the treatment of the Amazon and the social and environmental impacts caused by the construction of the Trans-Amazonian Highway in Pará. Even though it was censored, the feature was included in the list of the 100 best Brazilian films by the Brazilian Association of Film Critics (Abraccine).
The documentary drama has won several national and international awards; among them: from the Brasília Festival 1980 (Best Film, Best Actress for Edna de Cássia, Best Supporting Actress for Conceição Senna, and Best Editing for Eva Grundman and Jorge Bodanzky); from the Minas Gerais Cinematographic Critics Association 1978 (Best Film of the Year in a showcase of banned films); and international achievements such as the Prix George Sadoul (Paris), Adolf Grimme Preis (Germany), Encomio Taormina (Italy), and the Special Award at the Cannes Film Festival for Reencontre Film et Jeunesse.
In the story, we follow the young Iracema (Edna de Cássia) and her journey along the Trans-Amazonian Highway, a road that, in 1974, symbolized the optimism of military propaganda. Alongside Tião Brasil Grande (Paulo César Pereio), she embarks on a journey that takes her from the streets of Belém to the depths of the Amazon rainforest. Along the way, the film exposes the complex power dynamics, exploitation, and violence that permeate the region.

Double Features:
The documentary “Cazuza, Boas Novas” dives into one of the most intense and creative periods of the life of singer and songwriter Cazuza. Between 1987 and early 1989, already diagnosed with AIDS and facing the worsening of the disease, the artist experienced a true artistic explosion: he released three albums, won several awards, and performed over 40 shows with the concert “O Tempo Não Para,” which would become a landmark of his career.
Directed by Nilo Romero — musician, personal friend, and musical director of Cazuza's last show — and co-directed by Roberto Moret, the film brings together rare archival footage, never-before-seen videos, and emotional testimonies from names like Ney Matogrosso, Gilberto Gil, Frejat, and Lucinha Araújo. The feature reveals Cazuza's creative urgency, his struggle to leave a legacy, and the profound impact he had on his generation.

“Cloud – Nuvem de Vingança”: Japanese suspense selected from Japan for the 2025 Oscars.
Also showing is the film “Cloud – Nuvem de Vingança,” by renowned Japanese director Kiyoshi Kurosawa, which blends psychological suspense and social critique. The plot revolves around a young man who, in search of easy profit, begins reselling cheap products at high prices online. This practice generates outrage among customers, who decide to take revenge, triggering a series of mysterious and threatening events that put the protagonist's life at risk.
The feature has been selected to represent Japan in the race for a spot at the 2025 Oscars and was named by IndieWire magazine as one of the best films of the decade. Kurosawa, known as the “master of horror,” is behind cult works such as Pulse (2001), Cure (1997), and Creepy (2016), as well as award-winning dramas like Tokyo Sonata (2008) and The Wife of a Spy (2020), winner of the Silver Lion for Best Direction at the Venice Film Festival.
