During the month of July, the State Department of Justice (Seju) promoted drug prevention training actions in the Marajó Region. The activities began in the municipality of Breves on the 14th, passing through Gurupá and concluding in the city of Muaná on the last day, the 21st. The actions reached over 180 people and are part of Seju's summer program for drug use prevention, education on rights, and coordination with local protection networks.

In Gurupá, on the 17th, Seju conducted training on Justice, Racial Equality, and Human Rights in the quilombola community of Nossa Senhora de Nazaré do Rio Jocojó. The activity was based on the principles of Restorative Justice, using the Restorative Circle as a tool to work on values such as listening, patience, non-violent communication, and respect.

“Each meeting was conducted considering local specificities, promoting the strengthening of bonds and dialogue about the vulnerabilities associated with substance use and the inequalities affecting at-risk populations,” explains Seju social worker, Andreia Siqueira.

The official from the Social Assistance Department of Gurupá, Maria José, highlighted the importance of dialogue among those involved. “It was a very important activity for the quilombo community, especially with the exchange of experiences we had, each one brought their reality and we learned a lot from them.”

In Muaná, the municipal social assistance official, Isanely Matos, praised the professional training of the activity. “We serve young people and adolescents who have become involved with drugs, but we need to understand the family context of these young people to really help them. So this training was very important to improve the quality of our services.”

Reduction of inequalities - Seju technician, Márcia Marques, explains that the Secretary's summer actions aimed to intensify presence and dialogue with communities in vulnerable situations.

“During the training, it became clear that talking about drugs in Marajó is also talking about historical abandonment, about inequalities that permeate the environment, and about the urgency of building policies that stem from local experiences. That’s why it’s important to have listening and coordination among sectors, because it’s in this path that our people recognize themselves as subjects of rights,” says Márcia.

Seju's actions are in line with the National Drug Policy (PNAD), which adopts approaches based on comprehensive care, harm reduction, and the promotion of social reintegration of people affected by problematic use. They are also aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, especially in reducing inequalities within and between countries.
