State encourages the sending of more than 40 tons of glass for reverse logistics
Semas supports a cooperative in Igarapé-Açu with the transfer of equipment to expand solid waste collection and circularity actions
The State Secretariat for Environment, Climate and Sustainability (Semas) equipped this week the ReciclAssu, a work cooperative that operates in selective collection and recycling in the municipality of Igarapé-Açu, in northeastern Pará, with the aim of increasing production capacity. The delivery results from an institutional arrangement that combines ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practices with environmental licensing, in partnership with the companies Be8 Energy and Centaurus Mineral Research.
As a result of the strengthening, the Central Amazon Cooperatives Network, through Concaves (Belém) and ReciclAssu (Igarapé-Açu), sent more than 40 tons of post-consumer glass packaging, especially long neck bottles, to the national reverse logistics program Glass is Good, from the Brazilian Beverage Association (Abrabe).

The initiative strengthens the chain of collection and environmentally appropriate disposal of glass in Pará, promoting the circular economy and the professionalization of solid waste management. "The sending of this additional load of glass for reverse logistics is a concrete response that can indeed lead us to the closure of landfills, such as the one in Igarapé-Açu. By working together, each doing their part - government, companies, and society," said Carol Magalhães, president of the Amazon Sustainable Development Institute, responsible for the technical incubation of the ReciclAssu Cooperative.
Priority - The deputy secretary of Environmental Management and Regularity of Semas, Rodolpho Zahluth Bastos, emphasized the commitment to the circular economy, dignity in work, and income generation. “Cooperatives play a strategic role in the recycling chain, which is why we prioritize acting concretely with collectives, such as ReciclAssu, where the delivery of essential equipment expands their capacity for collection, sorting, and proper disposal of waste. The sending of more than 40 tons of glass to the reverse logistics system demonstrates that, with technical support, integration between government, cooperatives, and the business sector, it is possible to transform the reality of solid waste management in Pará, with social, environmental, and economic gains,” he emphasized.

ReciclAssu is a partner of the Igarapé-Açu City Hall, through the Municipal Secretariat of Environment (Semma), in the execution of the Selective Collection Program, contributing to the inclusion of collectors, income generation, and reduction of environmental impacts. The work also has the support of the State Secretariat for Women (Seu) and the Central Amazon Cooperatives Network.
"For the Central Amazon, this joint action with ReciclAssu proves that the recycling work in cooperative networks deserves recognition and should be seen as a real solution to professionalize waste management in Pará," reinforced Débora Baía, president of Concaves (Cooperative of Recyclable Material Collectors) and representative of the Central Amazon Cooperatives Network.
The equipment delivered to ReciclAssu included a vertical baler with baling press, sorting conveyor, hydraulic stacker, a glass crusher with attached conveyor, a digital scale, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
