The public water park is a pioneer in Belém

As water falls from the large bucket, children wait for the overflow to enjoy another moment of leisure and inclusive fun at the City Park in Belém. The Esplanade of Fountains is the first public water park in Belém, welcoming boys and girls up to 12 years old — including those with reduced mobility.

The space offers specially designed chairs for water parks, step-free ramps, and non-slip flooring for free, allowing all families to share the fun provided by water jets, slides, coconut-shaped buckets, mushroom showers, and pools with up to 50 centimeters of depth.

Adapted chairs allow all children to participate in the games

“Look how cool, dad!” said the girl Maitê, upon seeing clear sidewalks and exclusive spots right at the entrance. Architect Rômulo Maranhão, Maitê's father - who uses an adapted wheelchair - added: “As a father and architect, I was proud to see the Park truly accessible.”

“She can have fun there, play, without getting her chair wet. It makes everything easier not only for wheelchair users but for those with limited mobility or who have some unfavorable situation in their daily lives. This is very interesting,” emphasized Rômulo.

Beatriz Cardoso da Silva, mother of Miguel, diagnosed with cerebral palsy and autism, also highlighted the importance of an inclusive public park. “I am an atypical mother and had as much fun as he did. Seeing special chairs available, firefighters nearby, and zero obstacles in mobility makes our world lighter. This is the first time I see something so comprehensive in Belém. We need to take care of this place, which is ours,” she said.

Equipment - To ensure leisure for all social segments, the Government of Pará provides wheelchairs specifically designed for aquatic environments, offered free of charge to people with disabilities (PwDs) throughout their stay in the space. This care reinforces one of the Park's objectives: to guarantee the right to play safely for all children, regardless of their level of mobility.

In addition to a fixed team of five firefighters, two lifeguards and ten monitors rotate in shifts. Observing simple rules — appropriate swimwear, waterproof diapers for the little ones, and not carrying sharp objects — ensures the families' peace of mind.

The Esplanade of Fountains will operate until the beginning of August, when the City Park will be handed over to the Federal Government and the United Nations (UN) for the setup of the structure intended for COP 30 (world conference on climate change), which will place Belém at the center of discussions on climate and other environmental impacts next November.

Public Summer Camp - Alongside the water park, the City Park of Belém hosts Brazil's first public summer camp. Over 10,000 children have registered for sports, cultural, and technological workshops, which continue until July 31, with daily programming for those who decided to enjoy their vacation in the capital of Pará.

Activities include everything from skateboarding lessons at the largest Olympic skatepark in the North to storytelling and hip-hop battles. Everything is free and supervised by professionals from the State Departments of Culture (Secult), Sports and Leisure (Seel), and Education (Seduc).
