In a joint operation, the Scientific Police of Pará and the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) transported the bodies of the three students from the Federal University of Pará (UFPA) and the institution's driver, from Goiás to Belém, on the morning of this Friday (18). They died in an accident on a federal highway while heading to the Congress of the National Union of Students (UNE) in Goiânia. A forensic expert from the Scientific Police of Pará represented the families for the release of the bodies by the Scientific Police of Goiás (PCEGO), and other procedures for the transport.

Family members of the victims accompanied the arrival of the bodies at the Air Base in Belém

Forensic expert from Pará, Mário Guzzo Júnior left Belém carrying powers of attorney from the families and other necessary documents for the release in Goiás. After the procedure, the bodies were sent to funeral homes for the necessary preparation for transport. “As soon as we learned of the incident, we contacted the Scientific Police of Goiás to initiate the necessary documentation procedures for the releases. I arrived around 7 PM and, immediately, the procedure was started and carried out during the night and early morning. By 8:20 AM the plane was ready, and we left for Belém,” he reported.

Support - At the Air Base in Belém, close family members awaited the arrival. The plane landed around 12:45 PM. The family members accompanied the transfer of custody to the general director of PCEPA, Celso Mascarenhas, and the placement of the coffins in the removal vehicles. The convoy with the bodies of the three students headed to the headquarters of the Scientific Police, while the body of the driver continued, on the same plane, to Altamira, in western Pará, where his family resides.

The family members were received in the auditorium of the Scientific Police of Pará for the final procedure of releasing the bodies by a multidisciplinary team. “We decided to place the family members in our auditorium so that they would be more comfortable and could carry out this final release procedure. Here, they were received by a team with a social worker, nurses, and psychologists, which we also provide daily for all who need the services of the Scientific Police, as this is a sad moment for the families, who need all the support,” highlighted Celso Mascarenhas.

The general director of the Scientific Police thanked the cooperation between the Scientific Police of Pará and Goiás, the Civil Police of Pará, and the FAB, so that the operation could be carried out as quickly as possible and successfully.

The bodies of the young people were released around 2:45 PM and proceeded to the wake, which will be held at UFPA starting at 4 PM.
