With support from the Government of Pará, Mangueirão gathers 1,500 athletes in the Cross Urbano race
The competition held at the Pará state arena featured a night race over a distance of 6km, the first of the national tournament in 2025

The Olympic Stadium of Pará - Journalist Edgar Proença, Mangueirão, in Belém, hosted the second stage of the CAIXA Cross Urbano running circuit on Saturday night (12). The unprecedented competition brought together 1,500 professional and amateur athletics competitors for a 6km course, featuring a night race - the first of 2025 - within the arena.

The CAIXA Cross Urbano is organized by Corpore Sano, sponsored by CAIXA and the Federal Government. The Belém stage received support from the Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat of Sports and Leisure (Seel).

After making its debut in the capital of Pará, the CAIXA Cross Urbano now moves on to Teresina (PI) for the third competition of the season - once again at night - next Saturday (19), at the Albertão stadium.

The Seel secretary, Cássio Andrade, emphasized the event held for the first time in the capital of Pará and at Mangueirão. “We are happy for this beautiful moment that was this race here in our new Mangueirão. Pará has been the stage for great national and international events, which is gratifying for all of us who work to promote the value of local sports,” said Secretary Cássio Andrade.

The CAIXA Cross Urbano has a route around the stadium structure: Olympic lap on the grass, in the bus access tunnel, in the inner ring - upper and lower, on the access ramps, in the parking lot, and around the arena.

Inclusive and democratic event
Athletes and the public praised the competition and highlighted the experience inside the stadium at night. Family and friends, as well as the general public, encouraged the competitors and considered the event inclusive, providing opportunities for everyone.

Gloria Henriques, from the Avante Project, participated along with Paralympic children. "I just want to thank you. Thank you very much for believing that we can complete this course, for trusting our work. It is always honorable and valuable."

Freddy Carvalho, organizer of the CAIXA Cross Urbano, highlighted the event as a whole. "It is a huge satisfaction. It has always been a dream for the CAIXA Cross Urbano to come to Mangueirão. I am sure it was an unforgettable experience for everyone. We had great support here from the State Government, from the Sports Secretariat, to carry out an event with excellence," he emphasized.

"I see the satisfaction of everyone and that makes me happy. Being able to participate in a race inside the heart of a stadium, in the arenas of the World Cup. Only the CAIXA Cross Urbano and the Federal Government can offer that. It was wonderful. I am sure everyone loved it and was enchanted by this race," Freddy added.

Stadium Race
Known as the stadium race, the CAIXA Cross Urbano was launched in 2014, the year of the World Cup in Brazil. It came to promote the multi-use of arenas. Since then, there have been 26 stages in the largest football stadiums in Brazil. The idea of the event is not to use public roads, in a conceptual running circuit.
Belém was the first of a total of five night races in 2025, energizing Saturday night. The competition now moves on to Teresina (PI), Fortaleza (CE), Maceió (AL), and Rio de Janeiro (RJ). The calendar is completed with two daytime races - Guará (already held) and Campinas (SP).
