During the Summer Operation 2025, in Salinópolis, in the northeastern region of Pará, one of the environmental activities coordinated by the Institute of Forest Development and Biodiversity of Pará (Ideflor-Bio) has enchanted tourists and residents of the region: the visit to the marine turtle nursery.

The initiative, aimed especially at children and families, takes place in the part of Atalaia Beach known as Ponta da Sofia and aims to raise awareness among the population about the importance of preserving species and the coastal ecosystem. The Minister of Cities, Jader Filho, along with his family, attended the work of the Institute's teams on the afternoon of this Sunday (13). He also visited the nursery with baby turtles.

In compliance with the recommendation of the Public Ministry of the State of Pará (MPPA) and ratified by the Court of Justice of the State of Pará (TJPA), this part of the beach, starting from the 3rd access shortcut to the bathing area, is blocked for the circulation of motor vehicles. However, pedestrians and bathers have free access.

At the site, visitors receive guidance from Ideflor-Bio technicians about all stages of the reproductive cycle of turtles, from laying eggs to the moment the hatchlings break the eggs and head towards the sea. Currently, the nursery houses about 130 eggs, protected in a designated space monitored around the clock.

Awareness - "The presence of families and, especially, children, in this environmental education process is essential. It is a moment of learning and creating emotional bonds with nature. We believe that those who know and understand, take care," says biologist Lorena Lisboa, who monitors the actions at the site.

Tourist Neto Pereira and his daughter Júlia, 7 years old, were enchanted by the care for natural resources in Pará

Tourist Neto Pereira, who visited the nursery with his daughter Júlia, 7 years old, also celebrated the initiative. "It was exciting to see the care for the eggs and to know how the turtles are protected here. Júlia was enchanted and already wants to come back to see when they are born," he said.

The director of Management and Monitoring of Conservation Units, Ellivelton Carvalho, emphasizes that the action is part of the set of activities carried out by Ideflor-Bio during the summer, which includes environmental inspection, release of hatchlings, and educational actions for conscious tourism and the protection of marine biodiversity.
